Why do some people hide their faces on social media?

Are they not comfortable enough to put their photos online?
Even if they are how does this make sense?
You don't post your picture to make other people fall in love with you.
Being uncomfortable with posting your picture on social media means you are afraid of getting no attention which will eventually make you feel desperate.
Honestly, I can't see any other reason why they avoid using the pictures of their faces.
Your face is a part of you that is fixed in people's mind and which helps them know and remember you.
I can't talk to people online unless I know what they look like. And no, I don't choose who to talk based on what they look like I just don't want to talk to texts but to people who text.
And I want to add one more thing. When you go outside you don't hide your face unless you're a Muslim woman. I mean, showing your face to strangers is not a weird thing.

I show my face here but I'm a ghost on Facebook. I do that because I have grown to dislike the environment and I'm just there to snoop. I am a good looking girl and I have a nice body but I don't care for the drama Facebook had brought me because of that, women adding you to talk to you and then make snide remarks, making subliminal posts, introducing you to her friends so they can be rude in your comment section.

A bunch of men commenting on your photos and liking everything you post, then become weird and rude when they see that it's getting them nowhere, no, I'd rather be a troll with a cat picture and toes for my background. Oh and the people who think not liking your shit will hurt your feelings, tf is up with that?

Imagine thinking that not showing your face online leads to desperation, that’s so subjective it’s it’s almost shameful to say. A big part of being online is the fact that you can share your views without others knowing or remembering you.

I don’t have a low self esteem yet I don’t post my face online, my happiness really doesn’t depend on what some people on Instagram think of me, I simply think it’s unnecessary and unsafe.

On the internet peoples pictures get stolen and misused, for catfishing for example. I don’t want my face plastered to what I share my views on online, it’s not even relevant unless you’re on a datingsite.

All your arguments are subjective and half dont even make sense. Part of the allure of the online world is the fact that you can do things "anonymously". You can state your views without external factors like your look influencing them. Let people do what they want to do.

Some people want to remain anonymous because they may not want their siblings, friends, parents, etc. read a post where the ask or give sexual advice, or where they ask for advice on family problems. Some people have positions in which they are respected and they don't want to compromise that respect by being recognized as the girl who gave advice about anal sex or the girl who said she had 37 sexual partners when she was younger.

Some guys feel low about themselves and probably don't want to even be judged, while they may continue to gudge other people, over foolish stuff.
One time on Instagram, I had liked a post from a blackgirl account which I believe was called https://www.instagram.com/cute.melanin/ As I saw a pic of a girl admiring her natural lips, I commented how I liked hers and mentioned my lips as well. Some guy with no profile pic and a private account started to bore and harass me about " how probably ugly my lips are". I replied back to him saying " says the guy with no profile pic" and I deleted my comment and reposted my comment to the post later. That same guy had harassed me, and tried to call me a balloon. I attacked him back with a reply again, deleted it, and reposted the same question again. He replied under my reposted comnent again ( third time), and asked why I keep reposting my comment and " that it was weird". Why did he keep hunting my comment in the comment section is what I had thought, yuck. And then he started talking about black people, and then brought out I must like him, if I replied back. I replied and said "nope lol" and told him he needed to quit responding under my post. The conversation had greatly ended, but I noticed I had received a pic through DM or message, after it had ended. And it was some old pale insecure kid trying to hold his pants near his crutch. I do believe people these days do it out of insecurity, to troll, and etc. It's annoying though

And here I was thinking that I did not want to post my pictures on social media because I don't want to expose myself to the entire world in case I do anything dumb or make at statements I should not make. Thanks for telling me what I was thinking!

In my case it is an absolutely low self-confidence. Mine is deep below zero. I dont let other people take photos of me and even I can't take photos of myself. Believe it or not, I have never taken a selfie in my life and have no pictures of myself anywhere except my ID, driving license and so on. by the way, all these cards in my wallet are turned upside down so that I cannot see my face on them :D.
If I had a profile pic on some site I would have to look at it every time I log into the particular site and that is something I just can't bear. I hate looking at my face so the feeling that someone else has to is terrible for me.
I know some people will never understand this but it is true, and believe me when I say I WOULD BE HAPPY IF IT WERE NOT!
That is MY reason for not having a profile picture.

I like photography and portraits in general so taking pictures of myself and editing colors is fun to me. When I love them I want to post them on my story or something like that, but I decide not to most of the time. It is NOT because I'm insecure, I'm actually pretty confident. But I don't like the idea of the internet having access to pictures of me (which in this day and age are very easy to manipulate or steal). The other thing is, I feel shallow whenever I post a selfie or something that has no other real content except for my face - like yay i look nice but who is really going to care? Nobody. So I stick to a feed of my street photos or portraits.

Some people are just more private that others. Maybe they take into account the risks of having their photo online? For example identity theft. Tons of dating apps have fake profiles. I assume most of them use pictures of people such as yourself that you may be posting on social media. Never put your address or phone number in a public social media account, and also never put in your status when you are going on vacation. You may think that's perfectly fine but people have been robbed by people on their facebook because someone on their list knew where they lived and when they were out of town.

I'm not sure, I agree it's strange. I would instinctively assume they're hiding from potential criticism. The internet can be a mean place. I think a thicker skin is needed for these people if this is the reason

Some people are simply more introverted and don't feel comfortable with sharing their picture online, some think of it as distasteful, some find instagram and other picture sharing platforms a vanity fair and don't want to participate, some don't like how they look on the picture and are insecure to share, lot's of different reasons I think

Some people feel self-consciousness about how they look... and feel the second they post it, there might be haters out there to lower there self-esteem more then what they already think.

Privacy does not exist without anonymity.

There isn't a single site that my picture is posted on that can be accessed without my giving permission. That way, I can keep my professional, personal, blogging and dating lives in separate domains.

And as far as in public, I use discretion as well.

Well, you are not an American. We have a big issue with identity theft, spamming and phishing here. Hackers try to make use of information they obtain about people on line and either try to blackmail, impersonate you, etc. for financial gain.

I don't know if that is a big issue in Armenia. But I was dealing with an attack today that used impersonation as the vector. If he found the right person in this organization, it would have worked. $70,000 would have been gone just like that.

It's ok on places like Facebook where only people I know are. But I really don't have the energy to worry about random people's judgement about my looks.
Especially if you said something others don't agree with. First thing they do is looking at your picture and judge you based on that.

There are many reasons. To retain their privacy, to show the world that there is something they find more interesting than their own image, and it can also be more artistic to have photos that hide their face. On here, I had my selfie up for a bit, but I’m so proud of the flowers from my garden.

I used to never show my face because I was way more insecure and shy... now I only put profile pictures, but I wouldn't regularly post pics of myself on Instagram or something... not because I'm still insecure but because it just seems pointless... I don't want random people I don't know going through a lot of pictures of me... or commenting about my looks, negative or positive comments, I just don't want it. I only regularly send pictures of myself to my friends..

Look, I don't want people acting weird and sending me creepy messages as soon as I post my face online. I've done of once and when I deleted it, a person that followed me kept trying to find it, when I clearly didn't want others to know. Respect people's privacy, because you're talking to a bunch of people that you have no idea what they look like.

It could be because he/she has be judged many times on their looks rather than their personality. And many people have made them feel low bout themselves so they don't really prefer showing. When they go out their face won't be popping out in the crowd but when chatting the other person will only see his/her face. Kinda hard to explain but I hope u got it.
