Do metal detectors detect phones?

I have to go somewhere, where I have to pass a metal detector. Does it detect an iPhone? I'm not bringing any weapon or whatever, just my phone.

I don't think they do as the amounts of metals that makes the detector go off shouldn't be enough in a smartphone. They usually don't check for it, but if there are any terroristic attack risks they will ask you for it sometimes. After all, most explosives are wired so that they go off with a phone call.

I used to have lunch with a lawyer friend at the courthouse a lot. (He has since passed on unfortunately.) So I used to go through a metal detector there. It even picked up the metal in my belt buckle, so I'm sure it would pick up the metal in an iPhone.

Yes. Your phone is probably the worst weapon of all. Not to mention it will fry if placed in a metal detector for too long.

Security will usually ask you to pass off things like keys and any other small metallic items into a tray, then you pass through and grab your stuff.
