How can you detect spy/hidden cameras in public toilets, bathrooms etc?

Sometimes i see weird holes in walls of public toilets etc. Anyway do you know how to detect spy/hidden cameras on your own?

it does not necessarily have to bepublic rooms. It can also be hotels, my home etc.

There is a real problem with a lot of places such as Airbnb and other hotel rooms.

We issued a number of our travellers kit to reduce risk of being spied on etc.

it’s all part of a large thing to do with not getting caught with your trousers down and blackmailed to fuck.

some is simple. Voyeurism, however some is part of more detailed Social Engineering and does result in blackmail of individuals. The other and modern cameras are good at this is picking up someone logging on to a laptop etc or even documents.

Business travellers in certain sectors should be getting travel briefs about this shit.

this is on top of the usual security things such as using WiFi.

for the average person, yeah you might end up on some obscure porn site but that’s like, shit happens.

for others, you get blackmailed for clicking a link on an email or sending shit internally etc.

Realistically public bathrooms aren’t the thing to fear. It’s your home, especially if you got smart devices in a poorly secured wi-if router.


For every case of a voyeur recoding women in a public bathroom you have several incidents of someone accessing computers, phones, tables, security cameras etc to record people and use that to exploit them. Even in some cases resulting in sex trafficking.


If you see something that doesn’t feel right in a public bathroom obviously walk away and let the authorities know immediately. Better safe than sorry, but if you want to do something productive worry about realistic and prevalent threats.

You assuming you’re just an average person like me that isn’t trained or equipped to try and scan for recoding devices professional. You detect them with your eyes unless you’re visually impaired. Say that you’d need another person to use their eyes.

If something doesn’t look right take a closer look. If you still feel it’s not right get someone. A copy, a security guard, a friend that is computer savvy, the building managers, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST FFS. Just don’t be that jerk causing people to have a long line to go to the bathroom because you’re paranoia is leading you to want to search every nook and cranny of a public bathroom.

But again that’s not something you shouldn’t be worried about since it’s not a rational fear for someone to have given that’s not a prevalent crime.

Again, you’re far more likely to have someone breach you’re home wi-if networks than let’s someone use the built in camera on your cell phone m, computer, NOT YOUR ROUTER very likely silly goose unless it has a camera too. Than be a victim of a bathroom voyeur.

There are many cybersecurity issue to legitimately be concerned about rationally. Someone putting a camera in a public bathroom to see you urinate and/or defecate isn’t high in that list, in fact might no be in the list at all given how unusual and low the risk benefit ratio would be for that kind of silly crime.

You can try but honestly, technology has progressed far enough that its not possible for an average person to detect serious hidden cameras anymore. Examples:

How to find them? Depends on the sophistication of the cameras you are looking for and the expected effort they took to hiding it. For example they could hide it behind a two-way mirror. No amount of looking for holes would expose that.

An app MIGHT detect a wireless camera but as even your state that’s one small part of spy cameras plus what is the app manufacturer taking for their services? Your GPS location, web search history, store preferences, sexual preferences.

Forget apps, Apple is stating to make apps safe again but until you can definitely say who these third app manufacturers are utilizing your data to generate revenue for their “free” app hard pas for me and it should be for anyone that is concerned with their privacy.

Especially since again, public bathroom video voyeurism is not a common problem at least in the US. Maybe somewhere it is, malware, spyware, and especially ransomware at home and work at the very prevalent risk everyone needs to be looking out for at this time.

There are phone apps that detect the "shine" of lenses.

But there are also specialist devices if you're that concerned.

There are apps to detect those. But I'm not sure how efficient it is. The best way is to physically make sure there's nothing in the hole. If possible try to cover it with some tissue or something
