Can the tinder distance change drastically by error/glitch? His mileage changed from 4,000 to 30 miles away?

So I have this guy who I’ve known for many months now... we broke things off because he went to Europe for a work opportunity until next year.. last week it showed him on tinder 4,000+ miles away so I knew he was there. But then suddenly today his mileage is back to 30 miles away. Even with tinder passport the mileage stays wherever you are at so he can’t change the miles or anything. Could this be a bug or glitch or is that unlikely? Is it more likely he’s back home for some reason?

Ok maybe he used a gps spoof app. I’ll find out in time.. I’ll update the question with what happens lol

He could be using a VPN which could make it show him to be in any one of many countries. He may have the location function of his device turned off, too. Don't give either distances any credence they both could be right, and both could be wrong.

He isn’t tech-y at all. I don’t think he’s aware of these features. I know he can change his location but the mileage stays where you’re at. This is what I read on google/tinder’s site

And if his location was turned off then why did it change to 4,000 miles away, if he was turned off it would have stayed at 4,000?

No. My work is in Netherlands, but I work from home in UK. Wherever I go on the net it shows me being in Netherlands, but I am not. Of course, it may well be right. He may be only 30 miles awayl

Like I say, he could have used a VPN, a proxy, or TOR to make him look 4,000 miles away.

Can you do that by phone? Does it require a lot of work?

Sure. Anything that accesses the internet, like a desktop, laptop, tablet, smart phone, smart tv and even your router/modem.

You can change your location at will on tinder I thought? I know people who were constantly traveling who used tinder to hook up with women in the places they're going so they didn't have to have a hotel.

You can change your location but not the distance. So it would still show you at the miles you’re at but you can access people where you change your location to

I doubt they're bots.. I've been on Tinder for 2 months now and I've gotten over 300 matches and most of them are very far away from me even though I set my maximum distance to 50miles
