I think I started out with coins then stand McDonald toys Levi's baseball cards and I used to go to thrift stores and silver platters would come in a lot of silver and I would pick it up and then I start to get into watches because one watch it looks like just an old old watch could be worth up to $200,000 game boys Nintendo's cookie jars jewelry and probably about five hundred other collectible type thing LOL and I have boxes of this crap and I'm trying to get rid of all of it because it's just too much junk I used to be really up on everything and how much it was worth but then probably about 8 years Google I bought another house and I said no more collecting LOL so I started selling at giving it away doing whatever but there are items out there that are worth lots of money if you could find the right buyer though that's the whole key but yes I do love albums they sound really good cassette sound really good you're right about the sound quality but if you think about it everything that is made in America nowadays is garbage big business made us that way because they made it so if it breaks just buy a new one. That's just it's not smart at all and we as people are fools and we buy it because look at all the material that is wasted they make it so it lasts 5 months the make the price good enough so are you just throw that product away and buy another one but we're burning up all of our natural resources doing this it should be made one time and that's it. But we are a bunch of sheep and we do what we're told LOL Anyway I think it's yes is my answer to your question
I know, must of what I bought as collector's items has come to be worth less than their issue price. So if I sell it I will actually lose money. I apparently did not collect the right things. :(
Well I still have a bunch of things and I'm still trying to get rid of them what I mostly into now it's just coins when can I can make you very wealthy and you can find a ride in your pocket change and just about every single year of every date there are coins out there that are just worth lots of money. I save all my change but if you do do it go through your coins when you first get them don't be like me because I would just sticking in a 5 gallon water bottle or if I knew that they were I keep her the moment I got him I would put them away but it takes very long time to go through each coin but with the right point it would be well worth it.
Tell me. I got a coffee can of wheat pennies but have never gone through them... yet. Every once in awhile you will see an internet ad about "If you have this coin you can retire."

It is but it has to be in pretty good condition there's actually other pennies that are worth more the price is really gone down on the 1943 copper but I'm sure I'll go back up now there's all kinds of pennies worth big bucks but like I said it depends on the year it depends on the shape it is in acute 2017-2018 2019-2020 pennies all have flaws in them and they're worth money 1984 it's worth lots of money 92 1992 is worth Megabucks 92 93 94 96 97 98 99 they're all worth it moneyist is a double die or are no mint mark I mean all it takes is the right place and you're going to get paid top dollar
I'm a mobile DJ, and I've got about 3200 CDs. I have a few crates of vinyl too, but I got rid of a lot of it decades ago, keeping mostly only rare stuff like 12" remixes that were never made available on CD (though some has been released in the meantime).
That is a lot of CD's. You would need a room in your house just to store them. How do you keep track of what is what?
Yes, it's a lot. They're in Case Logic CD trays, in boxes in the garage. They're in alphabetical order by artist, and then by album release date, so it's easy to find things (soundtracks and singles are in their own groups). I spent 4 years ripping them into FLACs (with complete ID3 tags and album art), so I have a copy of the music itself on my NAS, so I don't need to get into the CDs very often. But I'd originally ripped them into 128kbs MP3s in the late 90s, and then into 192kbs MP3s in the early 2000s as storage got cheaper, and now that it's dirt cheap, I could go all the way to FLACs (which are lossless - they're exactly CD quality) without issue, so I can convert those FLACs to anything else without needing to go back to the CDs.
I once lost a couple of cases of CDs at a DJ gig in the late 80s or early 90s, which was a massive financial hit to me a the time, so I went all digital as soon as I could. If someone stole my portable hard drive or even the laptop, I wouldn't lose any music (because those are just copies), and that's a huge relief compared to the old days.

I even have a few asphalts (some old 78's are asphalt-based). Stan Freburg doing "St George and the Dragonet", a parody of Jack Webb's Dragnet was a very nice piece from 1953 on the old 78's.
A juke box full of hand-picked 45's (took the best part of an afternoon) included with the juke.
A few cassettes.
Plenty of CDs, mostly CW, standards and Christmas. I do have a couple of collectors' pieces- Moon River autographed by Andy Williams, Bobby Vinton autographed Blue Velvet, George Wright autographed organ records, Jim Stafford signed "I don't like spiders and snakes".
I had a Voice of Music 4 speed record changer that played 45, 33, 78, and 16 rpm records. I have no idea there were even 16 rpm records,
Typically the 16 rpm's are of someone reading something wherein the creator needs the longest length and not the highest of fidelity.

In the old reel-to-reel tape recorders, I believe the speeds were 7 1/2 ips (inches per second), 3 3/4, 1 7/8 on mine. There was also a 15/16 ips speed (not available on mine) that was used for the talking recordings, but of course, the fidelity was pretty much mush.
I still collect CDs, Vinyl, and Cassettes. Dungeon Synth music, for example, usually only comes out in cassette format. A lot of Black Metal bands still release on cassette format as well. They are old school scenes.
I don't even know if anyone even makes cassette players anymore. I think they have gone the way of VHS tapes. They only had one company that still made VHS players but have no idea if they stopped.
There are some companies still making cassette players but they are awful. Doesn't matter though, the old ones are excellent. I bought one in perfect condition from the 80s.
I still have a Sony cassette player/recorder but it's been gathering dust for a few years.

i started just collecting music CDs this year. I like tangible media if I have some space for it.
I have about 100 factory CD's and a couple hundred home made play list CD's. You can't get anything for CD's if you want to sell them. You would get more for donating them for the tax write off. So if you want to start a collection you can usually pick them up for a couple dollars apiece at thrift stores.
You can purchase good used VHS players on eBay for under $50 and for a little more a VHS DVD combo. Also, you can purchase an inexpensive adapter that will transfer from a VHS player to a USB device (flash drive or portable hard drive).
The older VHS player technology, prior to CDs and DVDs, had the advantage in that you could record or copy anything you could play on your TV. For example any movie you could watch on your TV you could record. Perhaps there are ways that you can still do that with the new technology but it is not as easy.
I still have all of the above, but I rarely play the old recordings. Just seems like too much to do to play them compared to playing Spotify. All my old recordings seem to be there!
I know. That is why I got rid of my old records. Took too much time to play 24 records on a record changer then by playing a CD of those 24 records. And you can't take the 24 records and play them in your car.
Exactly! That's why the phonograph and stereos were outmoded. I have a degree in music and I really don't know what people mean that there is better sound on an LP. I really believe it has to be what you are playing it on. I have a large bluetooth sound system, and all I hear are scratch and pops on my LPs!
Were your LP's bought new or used? Not everyone takes good care of their records. You see old pics of 45 rpm records sitting in stacks next to a record changer. They get really scratched easily when rubbed together and it causes pops and a scratchy sound. Dust on your record also causes those pops.
I just wore mine out. I only buy ones I would play a lot. That’s what’s so great about digital.
Diamond needles tend to do that, they eventually just scrape out a record's grooves. You know, they do their groove thing. Groovy man!

Yes, I have a big box of vinyl records from the 70's and 80's. I made a bunch of cassettes from record albums. I have a box of those and I have a whole pile of CD's plenty of Christmas albums but also others as well
I did have a CD recorder where I could record music from vinyl or other CD's but it went bad. I guess I burned too many CD's on it. :(
Obsolete? Hey, my car's tape deck actually WORKS, which is more than I can say for the CD player.
And as a bonus feature: take a tape out of its case. Flip the case open, and swing the front part up as far as it'll go. Place the bottom face down on the table, and boom- you've got a makeshift stand for your phone.
I'll have to try that phone stand idea. - Tried it and it works. Unfortunately both CD and Cassette cases are not strongly built and they tabs break if you should drop it and sometimes even just opening it. But it would be good next to your computer. I also found it is a tight fit for my Samsung Galaxy and would be hard to get out for a call. It worked better on an old flip phone because the joint between the phone halves rest smack dab in the center and is easy to take off and it won't fall over.

Very rarely. These days, rebuilding my wiki takes up a lot of free time. Got about 600 pages restored. Got another 1000 to review. On Miraheze now. Fandom and their freakin' politics. They're insane.
It would be one thing if all they did was have unreasonable terms and positions. But they randomly project onto you motives you never stated, and publicly condemn you for what you never said, and deny you appeals. Like a bunch of schizophrenia patients. An unworkable environment. So now, I've lost a year of productivity to those mental cases.
I have and still buy CDs and turn them into files and put 'em on a memory stick that my new CD player can play cuz it has USB. Then I don't have to get off the couch to change CDs.
I have a CD player that will accept a Thumb Drive. I just don't know how to put all my music on one. I can play a CD in my computer's disk drive but can't seem to do a thumb drive at the same time.
Well you have to rip the songs into files. Then after you do that, you can drag the files onto your stick. You can use windows media player on a PC. But I would recommend ripping them into either FLAC or WAV because those are lossless, meaning you won't lose quality. If you do mp3, they will be smaller files but quality will be lost.
I'll have to talk to my brother as he has put his music on a thumb drive for playing in his car without having to change CD's. So he will probably be able to show me - or do it for me if I sweet talk him.

I have VHS tapes. I tossed all cassettes. CD's just tossed. It's all in the cloud now. When the cloud is shut down, then we can go back to living like the natives.

@Jamie05rhs nope, gone. vhs player, not sure can send into computer. don't use tv, it's mainly a waste of time, rather live life. everythings' on computer... rather retrieve what I want than get something randomly.
If your computer monitor has an HDMI input, then I think you can buy a RGB to HDMI adapter and connect your VCR to that.

Alternatively, you could purchase a DVD recorder and copy all of your tapes, then play the movies in your computer's DVD drive.

I have 1200 vinyl records. About 1000 of those I inherited from my dad but I’ve bought more on my own and love playing them.
Vinyl is the dog's bollocks, as we say in England.
I have a large cd collection, I never found that cassette sounded better than CD, maybe vinyl does, but I definitely like CD.

Crap! I could never sell min for any decent price so I just donated them to Goodwill. I just really didn't have time to play them anymore. I can listen to a MP3 CD for 3 hours non stop when 45's you are changing them every 15 minutes if you have a full changer worth.

@supercutebutt MP3. They say you loose some tones, etc, but very people can hear any difference.
MP3 takes up far less space so you can literally put 100’s of songs on a DVD.
I can get a couple hundred on a MP3 CD. But the have to have a MP3 player in your car or house to listen to them.
You should do FLAC, as long as your player recognizes the format. The files are like 40% smaller than WAV but same quality. I notice the difference between mp3 and WAV or FLAC on my stereo.
Newer cars like my Challenger can play music from a thumb drive.
