How FAST is your INTERNET?

We have a fairly cheap Internet bill (US$70/month) and have reasonable Internet speeds for how my SO and I use the Internet; we're not gamers, we use the Internet primarily for email, browser searches and watching streaming videos. The picture shows my laptop speeds connected via WiFi to our 2-yo modem using the SPEEDTEST app connected to our local ISP during busy morning times. At night, the Download speed often goes to around 80 Mbps (sometimes higher) while Upload speed pretty much stays the same.

What kind of Internet speeds are you getting?

FYI... a friend of mine has two teenage kids who play games all day long. He pays US$300 a month for 1GB Internet, although he tells me it's usually only around 600Mbps.

I have a low speed: 15 Mbps download/1 Mbps upload. Honestly, the most "demanding" internet stuff I do is watching stuff on YouTube. I don't do streaming or gaming and I'm single (no one else using my internet), so it's all I need. I've never had any issue with that speed for my uses. I've saved a lot of money over the years by not needing anything faster.

I used to be the wan engineer for the company I get my internet from. I you can tell the few markets where the cost is low and speed high for Internet service are the few that have competition in the market. When you get to areas outside with only spectrum the speed is much lower and the cists much higher. Consumers are getting soaked by isp monopolies.

50 Mbit/s because we can't go any faster, we initially were promised a 100 Mbit/s connection, but never reached that speed for technical reasons.

So we got a comprimise and now pay 32€ per month instead of the 40€.

even when I had 10 or 20, I was okay with just that... lol

I looked at the Verizon website to find out but they just want to you to upgrade to gigabit speed.
