Has anyone had the pleasure of needing body repair to their Electric Vehicle?

My car was scuffed in a parking lot by a hit and run driver. To the tune of $3500. I have insurance to cover the repairs.

But, has anyone tried to get a body shop for a body repair on an EV? Even a lot of dealerships can’t repair them!

What i have found that mostly all body shops will not touch them! Account of not knowing how or having the equipment to disable the main batteries.

Green new deal people need to think past their noses!!!

I really didn’t think some people would get so uptight on this post. I mainly posted it for information to people that might be considering an EV. There is so much that isn’t told to prospective buyers.
As for me. I am possibly more understanding of electrical motive propulsion than a lot of people. Having spent 41 years working on electric and diesel electric locomotives. My shop built a high bred shifting locomotive and the company built a totally battery powered yard shifter.

That’s wild, damn. But we need do need to think beyond our noses, for the future of the planet and the people who live after us. Mechanics will figure it out. 5-10 years from now it won’t be like this, new mechanics coming up through trade school will be taught how to repair EVs, veteran mechanics will be forced to adapt as more and more electric vehicles are on the road, and parts ( and EVs themselves) should be far less costly. Someone has to bear the brunt of it, and it’s our current generations. We can’t just not do the right thing for the future “because it costs too much” today. THAT’S not seeing past our noses.

@WhiteSteve. I do agree with you. But Biden’s reset button isn’t powerful enough to do this overnight. Like his handlers think it can be done.
The other things that bother me are. Who has control of most of the rare earth minerals that is needed to build these EVs? Just like the solar panels. I believe it is the “There not bad folks” people. If you remember who said that.
The other thing is the mining off these minerals. I understand that it totally destroys the area around the mine.
Even the wind mill blades can not be recycled yet. They get buried out of sight!
My next question is. Does anyone have the technology to recycle the lithium batteries yetr?
What will happen at the end of their life span?
Again, I agree that things should be changing for a better future. But not over night!

well not only do most classical repair shops have no idea how to deal with those insanely dangerous electronics, it's also a big hassle to get spare parts, cause there's basically no aftermarket yet and the OEM spare parts supply does virtually not exist.

also good luck if for some reason your battery catches on fire. there's like a hand full of fire fighting companis in the world who can even deal with that. and they deal with that by litterally just putting the burning vehicle into a fire proof box and wait till it's burned out, cause you can't put these fires out at all.

not even mentioning that companies like tesla build their cars like apple builds their phones and computers. they are not meant to be easy to fix. they are meant to fuck the customer over.

I've had my Chevy Volt repaired several times by the Chevrolet dealer after my son got it dented quite a few times. It should be no problem if you take to the dealer especially if insurance will cover it.

I think it is the same in Europe. Body damage requires batteries to be disabled. Maybe even removed. That means one place to remove batts. Another to fix the bodywork. Plus getting the EV between the two.

No. but you're a fucking idiot if you think they are just conventional cars.

They need to be taken back to the dealership to be repaired, and the car parts are not something your average redneck mechanic or chopshop can pickup.

But most importantly, you read the fucking manual on this sort of stuff BEFORE you buy the stuff. You don't just buy shit on a whim because they had a "no money down" shitty AD on TV, like you must have.
