+1 yI already use Firefox. I've been using it for many years. There is no way in hell I'd put Chrome on my computer.
Probably most people here don't remember Netscape. It was the dominant browser at one time. They got plowed under by typical aggressive MS tactics. They were far better than IE, which was the only real option besides Netscape at the time. Anyway, Firefox is basically the old Netscape. It has a new name and is open source, but it's the successor to Netscape. So it actually has a longer history than IE or Chrome either one.
As far as I'm concerned Google should be completely shut down and the founders thrown in prison. Their entire business is based on violating people's rights, but too many people don't care.

So Mozilla made Netscape, or people that founded Mozilla used to work for the company that made it?
- +1 y
Yeah, same with Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, LinkedIn, etc,... oh wait, they're all colluding with the US govt via the Patriot Act. Extremely ironic name for legislation that allows the feds to surveillance innocent internet users.
- +1 y
Netscape made Netscape. They basically reorganized. They made the Netscape code open source and registered a new company name called Mozilla. It was mostly the same people and the same code.
The MO in Mozilla came from Mosaic which is considered to be the first browser. I think Mosaic was developed at a university (Indiana?). The original Netscape was based on Mosaic and evolved over time.
Mosaic was a MAJOR influence on the development and growth of the WEB. The Internet was around before that, but when the WEB started (with hyperlinks, etc) there was no way to navigate because there was no browser. In other words, the WEB existed, but there was no way to actually use it. Mosaic filled that role, but it was not really a commercial product. But it's code and concept were used by commercial products with Netscape being one of the first.
So when it boils down to it, Netscape was instrumental in the growth of the WEB. Because they are the ones who brought it to the average person and made it usable.

I'm already on Firefox, anyways. Been tired of Google's shenaniganssl for a while, now.
Firefox is great, but it's not for everyone. For those of you who want a smooth ride without and hiccups, change to the Brave browser.
It has the same foundation/underlying code that Google Chrome does (called Chromium and the code is public and anyone is allowed to use it under its license).58 Reply- +1 y
I used to be on FireFox for years until one day it refused to load any extensions, even when I reinstalled them smh
- +1 y
Even Chromium offshoots will be impacted unless they go out of their way to prevent it
- +1 y
What are you using now?
And I've only ever used uBlock Origin as an extension on Firefox, but I've never had any problems with it.
And yes, Chromium forks will be impacted by Google's decisions (unless mitigated, like you said). I wasn't suggesting Brave is ideal, simply that it is a decent alternative that will provide a smooth transition from Chrome. A suggestion for the more average users who may not be as technology versed. - +1 y
Edge (Chromium) on my PC and Brave on Android
- +1 y
Yeah I guess you could say that
+1 yIf they only made websites load as well as ad's, then maybe people wouldn't want to block them... but when the ad's load in 2 seconds but the actual web page takes 30 seconds, no wonder people want to turn them off to speed things up.
There is a lot of browsers out there and ad block programs, I don't actually mind ads if they don't slow things down for me.

+1 ySeriously? I haven't heard of this. Well that sucks, I use Chrome for everything. If I can't block ads on YouTube through Chrome then I might have to find an alternative.
01 Reply- +1 y
Well there's browsers with ad blocking built in like Brave and Opera, and some offshoots like Edge are promised to deal with this problem

I will do nothing.
I quit using Chrome years ago because it was so slow. Firefox is on my laptop. The browser on my tablet is Opera. There are two browsers on my phone, Puffin Pro as primary and Firefox for the occasional times some websites want me to use Firefox or Chrome.
I only have a Gmail account because I have Android devices and need it to activate my devices.
I use Duck Duck Go and BING (Because It's Not Google) for searching.
WAZE is my GPS navigator because Google hasn't ruined it yet.11 Reply- +1 y
DuckDuckGo app is Chromium
Eh to me using Chrome is a small step up over using Edge. Firefox and Opera and better then both in general. But even then there are a lot of browsers with built in ad and tacking blockers. So grab something with built in blocking for both and grab a extension to catch what the built in ones don't. You can also in most cases move your favorites, cookies and passwords from one browser to another. So you don't lose anything.
13 Reply- +1 y
The newer Edge is literally remade and built in Chromium
- +1 y
Brave has it built in but it's also Chromium
I will just change browser. Probably switch to Tor network.
Tip to avoid having commercials on youtube:
Not everyone knows this but if you are bothered by the ads while watching youtube... I have the perfect way to avoid getting unnoyed by ads...
Lets say your watching a documantairy about animals on youtube, then your browser adres will look like this:
https://www. youtube. com/watch. v?=u7jfndhsj
The only thing you then have to do is to put a stripe ( - ) after the letter T in the word youtube.
For example
https://www. yout-ube. com/watch. v?=u7jfndhsj
Just put a little stripe between the letter (t) and the letter ( u ) and reload the page.
Very simple and no ads anymore 💪🥳01 Reply- +1 y
Tor is very slow and not as secure as one might assume, as with most well known software over time. The US govt pretty much funds it and allowed it even be invented as a way for their spying agencies to undermine authoritarian regimes.
I use Edge but I also can code so if for some reason Edge gets affected I can fix it. This is the thing though. Take this website for example. Bandwidth can be expensive as well as hosting this website. The last I looked was being hosted on Aptum Technologies. So unless you are ready to go to a total paywall revenue system ads are necessary to pay the bills. What I try to do is whitelist websites that play nice. Let the ads come on through. What I block are the ads that cover the screen even covering up things on the webpage or the noisy ones. I remember one website that without an adblocker took close to 30 seconds to fully load and I had a lightning-fast connection. This is what most website owners try to do. The bills have to be paid. It's either going to be ads are a paywall.

I know how to code too... sort of lol
1. I started using Firefox back when it was version 3.6. And I'll keep using Firefox till the day I die. I don't care about other browsers bc I'm not using them.
2. I have a secondary browser (Chromium) but I'm only using it for website testing - to see how a website appears in these two different browsers. Some sites, like the website of WarGaming, doesn't quite work properly with Firefox and here's where Chromium comes in. So even if Google disabled adblockers, there are other ways to disabled ads - ways over which Google has no power, so that doesn't bother me at all. But I won't say what these ways are, because if a Google developer is phishing for such posts on the internet, they'll find a way to take away that control from the users.00 ReplyI will do nothing, since I already use AdGuard for macOS and iOS and It blocks ads systemwide.

+1 yI'll gradually transfer all my online ''services'' with google to somewhere else.
Trouble being is, that 'elsewhere' I'm likely to be molested with advertising, too.
We will see the day when we can't use a pencil any longer, without the pencil constantly puking out own ad ''notifications'' to us.

Yeah I used to use Google Search, then I went with DuckDuckGo and then Brave Search.
- +1 y
I used Chrome before, then FireFox, then Chrome again, then Edge, and maybe I'll go back to FireFox
+1 yI am already using Firefox as I do not like Chrome a bit. Along with Firefox, I am also using Brave and Edge. Synced with the apps in my mobile.
Firefox is so much more than we think it is. There is so much under its wing. At least for students of web development.

Yeah we’ll see how Brave responds. Might end up with Firefox and some extensions. Regardless I’m not dealing with ads.
- +1 y
Same, fuck ads
On Windows I use Brave. And isn't Chromium open source? If Google disables those someone will within days re-enable.
11 Reply- +1 y
Yeah that's why some developers like Microsoft and Brave plan to do just that
+1 yI'm already using Firefox for years. I don't use google on android that much. Google is going down. For instance, they disabled the feature to switch off labels in Google maps when in satelite view. Also, their satelite photos are not updated that often.

Which is why I use it rarely. I also run Tails OS on my main machine, ubuntu 22.04 on my second machine and usually Duckduck as a search engine.
I'd switch to Firefox if it didn't hog all my memory to the point that nothing works.

+1 ySwitched to Firefox a while ago, when Google started preventing Linux OSes to build Chrome along with Google services, which is the foundation of Linux security, among others.
03 Reply- +1 y
Linux technically isn't an OS, it's more of a distro
- +1 y
What a dick move from Google
- +1 y
For building Chrome you needed a special token key from Google, which it has been sharing for a while with people building Chrome on Linux distributions.
But eventually they decided it was so much hassle, and made the key secret.
I've been using Opera for years, and that has ad-blocking built in, without any extensions, so it's very unlikely to be affected.
00 ReplyEither switch to a non Chromium browser or use a private DNS with ad and tracker blocking. I don't use Chrome anyway.

03 Reply- +1 y
Yeah that's true, eventually devs will find a way to bypass the limitations of the V3 crap
- +1 y
That's also why I switched to Edge, it uses less RAM than either Chrome and FireFox
Opinion Owner+1 yYeah pretty much exact same features but less resources. Worst case scenario, I’ll use Brave Browser for a while which is really good.
The developers of these browsers want people to use them and without add ons they are less appealing so it’s in their best interest to allow them on V3.
See if I can still have them on Opera GX, despite being based on chromium. If not, switch back to firefox.
