What do you do about websites that complain that you're using an ad blocker?

Some sites will allow you to proceed anyway, although they may shame you ("Go ahead without supporting us") for not disabling the ad blocker. Other sites will not let you proceed unless you are very clever or you disable the ad blocker

Personally, if the site lets me proceed, shaming or not, I will go ahead and do that and ignore its entreaties to disable the ad blocker.

If this site isn't essential to me and it won't let me proceed without disabling the ad blocker, I'll go to a different site I am more interested in.

If the site is important to me, I will start with incognito mode and eventually switch to Tor to access the content without seeing ads. I refuse to be forced to view ads on certain websites.

I learned recently there are Ads by Israel that would collect your data without interacting with it, just by watching it.

Imagine all the countries, companies, etc. going through our personal information without us knowing about it. It doesn’t stop or start at Israel.

We’ve seen AI Generated ads scamming the elderly and telegram messaging romance scams taking advantage of isolated social media youths.

I don’t hate those that use an Ad Blocker, I hate the corporations and countries getting too involved in the privacy of the consumer.

I think that's true. If you go to a website and the ad even opens, it's going to start collecting data off your browser unless you've protected it.

@DryGermanGuy Specifically they found through data leaks specific information that Israel literally had ads that would play typically on videos however had access to phone, users’ contacts, emails, etc. all from not interacting. Yes it isn’t just Israel however it is one of the most recent examples that play at looking at the larger picture dude. This isn’t Anti Jewish or Anti Israel, this is Anti Spyware.

@msc545 Yes there is essential cookies over advertising cookies and such, so they do collect information to some degree unless you are actively Ad Blocking. I get that.
I want those to understand there is spyware and dangerous sh-t through Ads everywhere that are getting more and more intrusive, data harvest focus, and scammy. We shouldn’t be on the frontlines like that at the whims of ultra rich powerful influential people and we should put the clamps on their asses.

can't stand them, a lot of us are going to end up in old folks homes with non functioning brains because of this crap. have to wonder the mental impact of interrupting a person all day with somethin they don't want to see, in order to get ad revenue.

I mis the ms dos days... god I loved those floppy disks and patiently wating as they ground around and round to load. was better in some ways.

If a site makes it difficult for me to view for any reason I just leave. Any site complaining about ad blockers probably doesn't have any real content anyway, just ads.

Depends on the website and whether or not I'm allowed to continue or not with my ad blocker enabled, if the website allows me to continue with ad blocker enable I just ignore the warning and continue, if the website refuses to let me proceed with my ad blocker enabled, if it's important enough, I'll temporarily disable my ad blocker otherwise I'll just leave the website. Some websites are so add heavy they drag your browser to a crawl if you don't have a ad blocker and in rare cases, can serve you unsafe ads.

From what I noticed pretty much all of the websites that I use still allow you to see the content. YouTube sometimes changes the code and then the adblocker stops working.

i just disable the blocker if it's essential. the ads have always been tolerable for what i want. i really only use a few core sites. most of the others don't store cookies or will warn you. But that cookie is more important than ads to me.

If I can't use reader view / block ads on a site I will move on. Given how little time I spend on the internet though it doesn’t bother me.

as you know... it can vary by user experience but the most annoying ads I want to be gone are the ones in YouTube

Brave eliminates those entirely, DuckDuckGo does it as well (even have their own no-clutter player) and Vivaldi as well, all of these three do it "natively" and do not require you to install anything extra

they do the same with regular ads and "picture in picture player" pop-ups from news sites... Brave does it better

and then, there are other browsers available... Firefox based ones, others Chromium like the Helium Browser, even the Opera ones but for these to work well, they need to rely on Ublock Origin extension

Yeah, the YouTube ones are really annoying. I routinely run uBlock Origin, but it doesn't always take care of me. I'm going to try Brave and also DuckDuckGoGo, both of which I have sitting in nascent form on my computer right now. Thanks for your help.

for regular YouTube viewing... Brave or DuckDuckGo should do the trick

if you use YouTube for music, especially, listening to a lot of music... I would recommend a certain app that takes all of the annoying Google clutter, and leaves you only with the YouTube Music app, as clean as it gets

it depends on the website. If it isa website that I need to use for some reason which is actually pretty rare I temporarily disable the ad blocker.

That just deprives you of the website and its content. The idea here is to block the ad but obtain the content.

Not if I block the ads successfully, but which site is this? If nothing works I just report it to the adblocker I use and then they can handle the bypass. Right now I don't have the issue. YouTube doesn't detect my adblock, twitch lately did detect it but other than an occational "Would you like turbo?" doesn't halt my usage of it otherwise i'd have put more effort in. Chances are the sites you get this on work fine for me.

Try using incognito mode, and if that doesn't work, try using TOR. You shouldn't have to miss sites because of ads.

I use a lot of websites but I find it's mostly the news sites that are picky about adblocker. Some sites also block Tor.
