It's a compact hatchback, so it's not going to look like a Lamborghini, but in my opinion it looks pretty nice, and there's definitely a reflection of the Golf family in the design. They also handle and drive very well (taking its class into consideration) as is typical of German cars.
The BIG downside is that electric cars are really dependent on software, and VW's software is TERRIBLE. If you read reviews, nearly every review will talk about how bad it is, and after almost 2 years since release, it's actually gotten worse instead of better. It's so bad that VW just partnered with the Chinese (!) in the hopes that they can help them fix their software. If the software was straightened out, it would probably be the best car in its class, but no one can say when or if that will ever happen.
VW has 150 days of inventory of these cars - meaning: at the current rate they're selling them (which is not very quickly), it will take 150 days to sell through the ones they already have sitting around. That should tell you how serious the software problems are, because if the software was good, I doubt they'd have more than 3 days of inventory and they might have a waiting list. I hope they get the software straightened out, but I don't hold out a lot of hope. VW had probably the second best EV guy in the world running their EV program, and he'd been trying to tell them for 4 years that they had a huge problem with their software, but no one at VW wanted to hear it - especially not Porsche, who has the most power in the VW Group - and they ended up firing him a couple of months ago (shocking the entire industry), and then turned to the Chinese. But why would the Chinese help VW when they want to bring in their own EVs? That's like Ford going to Toyota for help.
It's too bad, but I would be very cautious buying a VW EV right now. Stay on the reviews, and see if they get the software fixed, and if so, then you can have a lot of confidence, because mechanically, it's a good car.
I'm not sure what you mean by the dependency of the software. Is it what's under the hood or the infotainment? At least for sure I miss the hardware buttons of the radio and AC. I was shown this car by a tradesman, he drove me around the city. Without a doubt the car performed very well (as far as i remember he said 200+ HP) which really left my soul behind my body when he went full throttle. I see the battery was really not bad considering 400km (250 mi) of range which I'd say twice the "minimal acceptable" range at least in here in "European" use-cases (half this range is already the amount of "I've had enough for today", even on highway). We don't usually drive that many hours especially not in one run. Plus there's a nicely developing infrastructure of charging stations.
The lack of hardware buttons, as I said, was my great con. And the dashboard was also quite minimalist if you google for images (digital only? which is booooring and not so intuitive in my opinion). But hey, the car does run even with having these in the package. Getting used to it might be a matter of time. But then again it raises the question of value for money.
You mentioned that there is a lack of hardware buttons, which is because, like your smartphone, the entire car - including lots of things that used to controlled by hardware switches and mechanical relays, are all software controlled.
You also have new features like being able to turn on the climate controls 10 minutes before you leave so that the car is comfortable when you get in, and the windows aren't frosted over in the winter.
But these things simply work poorly or not at all. I recommend that you read lots of reviews and check out YouTube videos.
As I said, software aside, it's a good compact hatchback - VW has plenty of experience getting that part right. But the software does far more than just the infotainment system in EVs, and that's not something you should ignore.
It could, in theory, be fixed tomorrow, but they haven't fixed it in 20 months, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
Impractical as far as meeting my vehicular needs.
If it can't tow my fishing boat, it won't be in my garage.
I'm sure there are consumers who would find it to be right up their alley.

Looks like a pop can car to be smashed by a pickup, suv or a semi. Maybe even hit a deer or cow on the road, and the animal would win.
I stopped thinking like that. Car designs will come and go with little choice from the average consumer.
