What is WhatsApp Web?

Does anyone know what is Whatsapp web? Can I connect with Whatsapp Web through devices other than mobile phones and is it a separate application?

That's through a web site it will generate a QR code to link to your phone and use the same account.

They have also been thinking of taking WhatsApp to a service independent from mobile numbers.

Basically it's Whatsapp for the desktop. Means you don't need to use your phone for Whatsapp
