I'm writing a story where a ring has a GPS tracker in it and I want to know if it's possible for the character to hack into a sattelite and find out who is viewing the tracking data

Yeah.. bridges. 🌉
There are digital footprints. 👣 Coding is like legos.
Everything is connected.
There’s stuff that say things like- “secure” and encryptions or whatever, but I’m sure the best hackers always find loopholes. They do when it came to basics. Everything is now just more advanced.
It’s why cyber banks are always having “good” hackers test their banking security; etc.
Things are connected. Nothing hangs in thin air. Based on this, you can truly decide to go that route, or study to become a hacker and try to prove it (the scenario authenticity) lol
or just try a different story idea. 🤷♀️
A lot of great stories have their research, while one fact may be ‘tweaked’ just to fit.
You can decide for that route, as well.
It’s up to you- the writer, where limits aren’t so tangible, but I appreciate your desire to keep it close to reality, as possible.
Reality is always changing, as well. Some things become it, like Simpson’s examples and some don’t, like back to the future and flying cars, or true-to-the-name hoverboards.
Best to you man! Ask a coder or tech-wiz if you wish!
Seems highly improbably, but it's your story, so you can write whatever you like.
