If yes, in what ways have a dash camera helped you?

I just got a dash camera delivered from Amazon. It really is a hassle to make that cable go under the roofing and then along pillar A of the car. Took me about 30 minutes to get it all set up! But it all worked out in the end. It is working fine, the recording quality is also quite good. Decent, to be honest. Just good enough.

But the camera records small videos of 1 minute only. I mean, for one hour of recording, I will be having 60 small files. Which, I think is good enough for some emergency events, but for vlogging? Nope, definitely not.

So do you have a dash cam installed in your car? Not the one is given by the company, but the one you have purchased?

My boyfriend was hit by a stop-sign runner the other week.


The stop sign runner tried to blame my boyfriend, lied to the police about what happened and the police believed him.


My boyfriend didn’t mention he had a dadhcam and just let the red light runner act like an asshole.


Then he sent the dashcam footage to his insurance and the red light runner’s insurance.


The red light runner is now in deep shit for lying.

It is for this reason only, I convinced my parents to get a dash cam when it is really not used by nearly all the people in India.

I’ve had one for years. It really saved me when I was in an accident almost 2 years ago now. Lady with her kids in the car ran a red light and hit me badly. She tried to say it was my fault and that she had a green light. I let her lie to the police and then I downloaded the footage and sent it to the department as well as insurance.

My ex had one on his car we were never in any accidents but we saw someone in front of us hit a parked car and just left. His brother knew the person who's car it was so he sent the vid to his brother and his brother gave it to the guy.

I love the view you get through the helmet dash cam. One of my family members is into off road bicycle riding. He uses GoPro in his helmet for the recording. Its amazing.

Is having a dash cam installed not in standard safety protocol in The US? I hear there are tons of security clearances required.

Dash cams are not required. Manufacturer installed back up cameras are now mandatory for cars manufactured after a certain date but dash cams are not. I'm not aware of security clearances and such required for them.
