I honestly don't get why people are mean or rude online?

I'm not truly referring to G@G, I'm referring to things outside G@G like YouTube, especially.

If you don't know the other person online, WHY be rude and not "like" their comment, or even become mean to them? ! What if that person is your cousin, or your brother or sister, mother or father? CHILD even? ! Next door neighbor? ! People will only be NICE to those they know, (are friends with) or are related to? ? ! That's ridiculous in my opinion! I mean, that means you'll only be nice to a handful of people give or take, the rest can just eat sh*t? ! ! I've seen some really atrocious comments, being cruel to others, on YouTube MSN comments, Yahoo comments. . I mean come on! Where's their conscience! People say it's because they are selfish and they don't care what happens to the other person because hashtag # stranger, but still! ... Even if that was indeed a "stranger" where is there HEART? ! ! Just something that's been bothering me for the longest time!

Add: You NEVER know if that person just went through a divorce/break up, dealing with a death in the family or their own failing health and your kind comment or uplift can be the thing that brightens up their drab existence or even just their day! Or can be the opposite and what will push them over the edge! How would THEY like it being responsible of someone's suicide or making someone go back to their drinking ways, cutting ways!

I mean, isn't it better to play it SAFE at least? I'm just saying. I know the world's not perfect, but I feel it could definitely be better!

People tend to have their own personal agendas and beliefs, they are not always rational, some people deliberately seek to harm minorities or people who are vulnerable. Some people just want to argue. Generally when it comes to heartbreak it's often because these people have been left a hole by someone, and haven't found a way to cope with those emotions. They can also just be a genuinely maligned person who enjoys harming people

It is easier to hate on those one does not know in person by projecting the worst possible attributes and making that person a one-dimensional caricature. Just look at the political boards on here for numerous examples.

In person, it is not so easy to paint people as one-dimensional. Bob across the street has opposite political opinions, but is also the first one to run out and help you change a flat, give you a jump, or help carry that heavy item. Not so easy to hate that guy.

There is also the safety issue. Being a horse's derriere online does not quite have the same consequences as being that way to a spouse or family members. Honestly, I'd rather have some clown get out his frustrations by screaming at me on here than beating his wife or kids.

Sorry about that. Online is easier because you can just ignore. Toxic neighbors are another matter. Thankfully I have none.

People associate themself more with people that are more like them.
Majority will like their own race over another. Like their biological kids over other kids. Like their family and friends more than strangers. The closer you are, the nicer they are to you.

Also people are mean online because they are bored and wants to cause some drama/ a show to watch. Also bully othet so they can feel superior. Its easier to bully someone online because you can be anonymous while you do that if you want, or create a fake name. People say more of their thoughts more online than in real like.

If you don't mind me saying, I think it has more to do with cultural similarities than race. Some people of the same "race" or ethnicity, can have very different upbringing or thoughts/viewpoints/beliefs, and so therefore, you'll have LESS in common with them. Take someone who is a Mormon from Utah for example, and/or someone from the South like Georgia, and someone from say Amish community or Hollywood or Texas Cowboy/Country! They can, in certain respects, all have similar ancestry but have very different lifestyles to where they can clash!..

Also, what about people of MIXED race? ! Where do THEY fit in? ! ? ..

You are kind of right, but what i wanted to say is people are more nicer to the people that are closer to them. Is it easier for you to help your family or a beggar? Is it easiet for you to be mean to a stranger online or to stranger in real life. Many dare to be mean to people online than in real life. Cause of you are mean to someone in real life, they might hit you or call the cops on you.

The anonymity of being online unlocks the inner demon in a lot of people. Kinda like a house cat: there is only a very very very thin veneer of domestication to a cat; do much of anything and they turn into furry buzz saws. Same thing for humans. We're not far removed from mean and vicious and online allows the curtain to fall.

Sounds more like an "us vs them" mentality. I get it. I've been through a lot of things, moved around a lot, experienced some of the worst people. I also have been helped by folks I've never expected to give a damn. I try to just offer my own views on things in a respectful manner. We can disagree on something without having to resort to insults.

It's not really that I let it get to me THAT much. Most of the bad stuff I see are usually directed at others, ... but still, just curious about the psychology of it. I mean I doubt they would like it if their child, little sister or brother, mother or father, cousin, was the recipient of those mean comments or excluded behavior. Plus, I do thankfully have the courage and wisdom to get back at them (if I so chose it), block them, report them, etc. but as to if they get any repercussions for it, is another story lol. * sigh *.

That's good! You're right, no they would not like it. But that along with the fact they're anonymous makes for a lot of dickish behaviour. A good way to avoid this is fine somewhere that encourages serious, mature conversations, but even they have their moments.
