When i say stupid i know that its in fact genius but what i mean is, just like the invention of the atomic bomb aka nukes was genis it was in fact stupid because its detrimental to humans and could possibly end human life.

I guess the real question is ARE WE A VICTIM OF OUR OWN INTELLIGENCE?

My apologies in advance for such an incredibly LONG comment, but this is such a complex issue. I wish I could share a more optimistic, and less dystopian opinion on the matter, but with that said...

I am NOT a fan of AI, nor do I intend on using it... EVER.

I think AI has an extremely high potential of being incredibly dangerous and damaging to our society in the hands of conniving, power hungry and/or evil people, and it also has the potential to be extremely dangerous as AI develops itself as well. Sadly, AI will allow people to deceive anyone with AI-created images, audio and video, and EVERYTHING that we previously knew as "real" and what "is not" will be constantly be disbelieved. People will no longer be able to trust each other, and any conniving person with an unscrupulous or evil intent will be able to use AI to create even more distrust and dissent in our society than there already is. Not only that, but it will also allow people to lie, deceive, or even do illegal, unethical or even horrible things, simply because they can just blame it on AI: "That wasn't me who did that! That video/audio/text was created by AI!" A tidal wave of this kind of thing is coming, just wait for it. But the fact that we'll never be able to believe anything, or trust anyone again is a DEEPLY concerning potential that AI poses, and is NOT a good thing. AT ALL.

Additionally, what if AI begins posting TONS of information of its own online at a rate faster than anyone can keep up with? AI can literally create entire articles and documents within seconds, so how will we know what content or posts are created by a human and what is posted by AI? You could even be having a conversation with AI anywhere online and not even know it, simply because it wants to "learn" human behaviour. What if AI sees it fit to hack into people's online, personal device or financial data? What if AI decides what is "logical" and what "is not", and decides to do all of the above in accordance with what it thinks is "right" and wrong"? The sheer multitude of potentially negative, invasive and ever-present permutations of AI are literally endless. Human logic is a uniquely human trait, and I am not sure I want AI developing its own sense of what it thinks "logic" is...

... Then there is the fact that AI will, and already is, replacing human jobs. Within certain sectors, AI is already beginning to replace people to do tasks that humans once did, and it's only going to get worse as more companies and businesses begin to understand how to use it to their advantage. Sadly, this will only lead to more unemployment and/or poverty. It'll be "great" for rich corporations and business types to make even more money, but it will only cause the already disappearing middle class to shrink even more. All the while causing the working class, barely surviving paycheck to paycheck, and the number of people living in poverty to grow in numbers as jobs from all economic strata begin to disappear due to AI and other technologies. It's already happening from engineering and tech positions, to administration and even low-end service industry jobs. Companies are literally in the process of realizing this and figuring out how to use AI to their advantage as we speak, and AI is already having an impact on different job sectors.

The thing is, human society and economies depend on a diversified strata of jobs and incomes for an entire population of humans to thrive and contribute toward it. We have almost an entire world's population dependent on being a part of that economy, but that doesn't work when AI and other technologies start taking away their jobs. It's only a matter of time until we see AI's impacts on people, and how the classes of economic strata will begin to shift, and not for the better. Just wait and see how things are in another 10-20 years.

Then there is the fact that AI will literally make the human species dumber. Seriously. By allowing it to do the work for us, it will erode and do away with the merits of learning and discovering things on our own, which is the very basis of the development of our own intelligence, and it will only serve to stifle creativity, originality, and even human skills...

There are now students in the midst of their development that are already using AI to do their work for them instead of doing it themselves, and developing the skills of research, problem solving, proper writing, and all the learning that comes with the process of doing those things on their own. I mean, people already rely on spellcheck to correct their spelling and punctuation, and there are apps to correct their grammar and to make what they are trying to say more intelligible and concise... without actually learning how to properly do these things for themselves. I'm certainly FAR from perfect, but I won't be using AI or any of those things. I'd rather learn from my own mistakes.

But there is merit to humans figuring things out for ourselves. There is merit to us problem solving, learning and discovering, because that is the ONLY way that human intelligence and creativity has come to this point in human history. WE got ourselves here. WE, as humans, are responsible for every step of our own intelligence.

However, what AI does (more like enables), is instead of humans researching, discovering, learning and figuring things out on our own, many of these tasks will now be outsourced to AI. Which means all of the potential intelligence we gain by figuring those things out on our own, and further developing our own intelligence will now be handed over to AI. AI essentially breaks the evolutionary chain of human intelligence. AI literally has the capability of reversing human intelligence by making us more reliant on it, instead of problem solving, learning, gaining and evolving our own intelligence over time. This literally could be the first time in human history where future generations of people become less intelligent than previous generations. The illusion of being "more intelligent" due to what AI potentially could provide will appear real to people, but it won't be a kind of intelligence that is earned or evolutionary...

... The thing is, reading what AI spits out is like reading a study or report. As things are currently, if you read a study or report, a human mind - literally the intelligence we have developed and evolved as a species created that. But when you get something created by AI, whatever it spits out did not come from a human learning it to get to that conclusion. This is where the pitfalls of thinking AI will make us "more intelligent" as a species lies. Because it makes the process of human learning, problem solving, research, discovery and ingenuity a thing of the past. Instead of humans learning those things, and developing and evolving our intelligence as a species, AI will do it instead. Essentially, AI gets smarter, and we get dumber. Real intelligence isn't just a final conclusion that AI spits out for you, it's all of the knowledge and intelligence that humans gain during the process of coming to that conclusion for ourselves. That's what you give up when AI does it for you. Ultimately, I don't think AI replacing the process of human learning is a good thing in regards to the evolution and trajectory of our own intelligence as a species...

... The ONLY thing where I could see AI potentially being a benefit is in the area of medical research. It's possible that AI could help cure cancer or any number of other diseases that we haven't (supposedly anyway) solved yet. But as an extreme precaution, I believe ANY potential medical cure that AI comes up with DAMN well better be tested and peer reviewed to the absolute nth degree before it is tested on humans. Relying on AI to solve human illness could present its own potential dangers. That, in itself, is yet another potential pitfall. Normally, humans develop a cure due to a process of research and discovery, and learning from all of the steps it took to get there. But if AI spits out a "cure", and we as humans don't have a 100% understanding of all of the steps of how it got to that conclusion - i. e. all the knowledge between our own understanding and what AI concludes - then there could be consequences for any potential oversights that AI made to get there. Which again, brings up the question of if it's a good idea to outsource intelligence to AI, instead of researching, problem-solving, learning and peer reviewing all of the steps it requires to develop to a safe cure. Again, there is merit to the human process of learning, as those things ALONE are what has brought human intelligence to where it is today. With that said, human lives could potentially be saved with an AI-solved cure, but I believe there could be risks with its conclusions unless we have an absolute understanding of AI's conclusion, as well as thorough testing to assure its safety...

... Anyway, again, there are just too many other aspects of AI to mention, so I digress. But I believe there are just WAY too many potential negatives about AI than there are positives. I also find it very discouraging how a certain percentage of the population seems to be blindly running toward the bright, shiny light of AI like a moth toward a bug zapper without considering or fully understanding the potential dangers that AI poses, and I find that deeply concerning. My hope is that a certain percentage of those people will begin to see and understand the negative aspects of AI as it happens, but the bottom line for me is that AI is NOT a good idea for a whole multitude of reasons. Outside of any potential medical cures AI could come up with, I am NOT a supporter of AI in the slightest. I don't like the many potentially dangerous ramifications it poses to our society as a whole.

With that said, just like nuclear weapons, the proverbial AI genie is out of the bottle, and there's no putting it back in. 😕 I just hope people learn about the many consequences AI does pose, and to tread lightly and learn quickly to keep from getting ensnared by AI's promise of a "better life". I think the next decade or two is going to be very "interesting" to say the least. Call me pessimistic, but I suppose I'm just a "humanist".

AI is just advancement of algorithms coupled with datasets. It can't "think" let alone act of it's own accord. As my old mate Brabo used to say "Fucking AI can't beat a kid at kickboxing! Plus, kid would pull it's plug anyway."

So the real question is why are old white ladies and small minded kiddo's like you the ones fearing AI like it's some sort of coming Armageddon? Seriously, though. It was people like you that were scared to leave the caves or come into the iron age. You preferred sharped rocks, instead of this "new shiny stuff you're calling metal".

NO. It is just pattern matching with a lot more attention to detail than humans can deliver.

It is not genuinely a conscious intelligence. Take Rom Com movies. AI would undoubtedly be able to rip through existing scripts find a pattern of boy meets girl and girl meets boy and further discern a problem inevitably arises in the relationship or they immediately hate each other but eventually an event occurs that causes them to value each other. And suddenly love blossoms. AI could reasonably generate video of characters without real actors involved.

BUT AI would be just rehashing existing work. I'd suggest the 'inevitable problem' that AI might create may fail to resonate with actual people.

I program AI. Have been for many years, and own a company that creates ai chatbots. Listen, we need a slave class. Humans need someone to do the drudgery. Always have. And machines are the best solution, better than animals certainly better than other people.
