Where I work we have 3 charging stations. They are locked and anyone that wants to use one has to get the code from me. Nobody has asked for the code yet until a week ago. Somebody was having his car repaired and it was going to be in then shop for a couple, of weeks. They gave this guy an electric car as a loaner. Plugging in to a standard 110 volt 15 Amp circuit will take 46 hours to an 80% charge. I hooked him up to the charging station but he said if we did not have charging stations at work he would have to find ane someplace else. It just adds more overhead to an already busy schedule. This guy tells me he can't wait to get rid of the POS/
+1 yCurrently, have no plans to buy one. I like the idea of being energy independent, not convinced e car is the way to do it.
Only for an around town car, yes, if the price was low enough.
I can't stand the Teslas I've driven unless can turn off their bluetooth crap, so have to be something else. Drove an E car in Norway and it was good. But the need to recharge it and long charge time is a problem.
As long as can charge it up at home for around town driving, it's fine. We have charger outlets at some stores. Since most people don't have e cars, it's ok right now. As well, I'd think makes sense to put up solar panels as well.
What would get us moving to electric would be very high gas prices. That could be achieved by way of gas taxes, war, etc. If the govt really believs what they are saying, they should do what Europe does and tax the H out of gas... throw the US economy into a tailspin, and save planet earth... along with change the manufacturing policies that feed climate change.
Americans aren't used to waiting to fuel up... we have some retraning required, might as well do that with the new generation driving. I'd just require all teenagers to drive e cars:)
What I would buy is a hybrid.

@lightbulb27 So do you really think people will go out and buy something that is more expensive and makes their lives more complicated? Especially sinc eit has been shown that they really will have no effect on saving the planet and may actually make the planet worse.

Short answer is still "no". I will ask everyone at Thanksgiving again for curiousity. I see E cars around, I see Tesla and other small cars and seen one of the new Rivian trucs in Europe. Clearly some will. But not many will pay that... I know people that can't afford a used car let alone new electric that limits their abilities. I know of noone talking about getting one. I suspect that's why JPM Chase pulled the social funds, Honda ended joint deals, and various makers are pulling back. Tesla... is plowing ahead to build cheaper versions... smart... else they get wiped out by chinese... if they stop giving their tech to china (All of the companies)... idiots! Alabama is opening up lithium mining.
I DO know one person buying electric motorcycles for off road, but thats to test them, small audience of one out of maybe 300. Enjoys them, fun play bikes and a different use/market right now. Some of the new E dirk bikes are back ordered... can't get the deliveries fast enough. Still... these bikes are exceptional power and useable but heavy. I dread seeing them on the track... can't hear them coming... eracing is boring as heck!
I know MORE people buying electric assist bicycles. I have one as do others. It's game changer for old guys. It's the wussie mans bike, but when ya can't train all week to ride hills, it opens up the ability to ride and enjoy riding. Makes us weaker, but better than trashing the body every ride. A lot of little kids have electric mini bicycles... my club will have a race class for them next year.
e car prices have to come way down or gas goes way up to really move the needle in USA. Europe is a diff deal, they are really pushing e cars for rentals (policy), gas is high. Saw more there.
I DO see a lot of solar panels around... that's questionable as well, but govt (us) is paying for it moreso. Generally speaking... a long payoff with questionable environmental value given lifespan/disposal.

Never. What a ridiculous scam.
If you have an electric vehicle, you can't take road trips. All they're good for is puttering around your 15 minute cities.
The mining, transporting and refining of the battery material, and the manufacture of batteries is far worse for the planet than any CO2 produced by internal combustion vehicles.
You can keep an internal combustion engine running practically forever if you take care of it. You can repair or rebuild engines. But batteries don't last long no matter what. And when they wear out, replacing them can cost more than the value of the car. So you are forced into a cycle of buying a new car every few years. A good deal for battery and car manufacturers. And look at the waste of junking all those cars. Again, not good for the environment.
There will never be such a thing as a classic electric car or used car lots full of old electric cars. Will low income people be able to buy a used car?
And where does the power to charge those vehicles come from? Fossil fuel-powered electric plants or generators.
Pfffft I will not comply.31 Reply
Ya know this is going to be a huge problem in a few years when they make electric cars mandatory.
Yeah, add millions of people to our country then make it mandatory to buy an $80 thousand dollar car and have to give up your flat bed truck that has good gas ⛽ milage.
No, I would never consider buying a car that's just going to put more obstacles in my life. Life is hard enough without having to find one of those electric filling stations and when you do find one, the line to use it will be longer than the rides are at Disneyland - which are very long by the way.
A big NO from me and a sarcastic thanks a lot AOC!00 Reply
+1 yToo much to replace batteries, too long to charge, too few charging stations. Also, do you get charged for recharging one? Someone has to pay for that electricity. Biden if an idiot if he thinks he can do away with gasoline vehicles. The oil companies make too much money on selling gas.

+1 yNo, I have no desire to buy an EV.
One of out favorite people, President Biden. is delusional in trying to ban gasoline cars and only allow EVs. It takes 5 minutes to completely fuel a gas vehicle, while it takes a minimum of 15 minutes to charge an EV... to 80%. What that means is this...
If everyone had an EV, there would have the be 3 times the number of gas pumps as there is now. That's not going to happen, and the world's electric grid would never support it.
Having said all that, EVs make sense in limited applications, like local delivery vans and taxis.

+1 yNo. What would be the point? They don't drive as long as a gas car, they're insanely expensive and you still have to burn fossil fuels to to be able to run them and, besides, there's not only no such thing as climate change but the stuff gas cars are pumping out is actually GREENING the planet!!
Besides, cars that run on water are MUCH better!! You can go weeks, if not months, on just one fill up, there's no pollution to worry about and the run-off can be collected and poured right back into the tank to be used again and again and again!00 Reply Yes, I would. There are some places to charge it nearby. But I've heard that keeping an electric car ends up being more expensive than keeping a regular car.

+1 yI have no desire to buy a full EV because of the lack of infrastructure, and also the batteries deplete over time, like any other electronic device. Also I don’t know how they do in colder climates like this - I’ve heard that once you turn on the heat in the car the battery drains immediately by nearly half. And I would never buy a Tesla specifically, the overall build quality is crap.
I would buy a hybrid or a PHEV.
00 ReplyI would carefully look at total cost of ownership first. A hybrid might be a better deal if you will drive in the country because of distances.
Insurance companies are writing off EV's in accidents where there may be battery damage because replacing the batteries is expensive. I would want a battery life time of several years.
00 ReplyI have considered it, but I really don't need another vehicle.
If I were to get one I would still want a regular car for long trips, but for every day use it would work out fine.
I would have to run the numbers on what the true cost of charging one is.
The other possibility would be a hybrid like a prius.
You get great gas mileage without the range anxiety of an all electric vehicle.
You save a lot on maintaining one vs a gas car.00 Reply- 1.1K opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic.
+1 yno. maybe in 5-10 years, when the technology has matured, the infrastructure has grown to an acceptable extend and the used prices are reasonable.

Had a Prius for quite a while which had crappy build quality and uncomfortable seats but got great gas mileage in about 48 mi per gallon a number of years ago. I might buy another one if the build quality was better and if I needed the gas mileage. I no longer do but when I did it was great. All Priuses are hybrids.

They already cost $100,000. Imagine what an electric one would cost? And think of how much less weight you can haul when you are carrying 2 tons of batteries.

Not sure yet…no plans. The technology does not yet replace gas or hybrid vehicles.
maybe in a few more years, we will see.i did have one as a rental this year and I thought it was awesome. I was impressed
