I guess that depends on your definition of advanced.

Most developed, I would say manufacturing of transistors because of the fact we're down to a 3 nanometer process. Which is mind blowing.

Most bleeding edge of our understanding of science, probably quantum computing since its finally good enough to be used as an arugably regular part of science research.

Quantum computing. If anyone thinks it's AI, just wait and see what quantum computing does for it. Its potential for computing power is the difference between a dollar store calculator and a super computer.

I watched a video about that. They said that the sum of all human knowledge used to double every 1,500 years. They predict in the next 25 years, all human knowledge will double every 12 hours. lol
When you went to bed last night you were good in your field. When you woke up in the morning you were lost. Humans won't be able to exist without the qubit. :)

@Tanya456 Well, not quite. Humans' ability to absorb and comprehend information will still remain the same. Just because information is given to you, doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to absorb it and comprehend all of its complexity within 12 hours. Technology will rapidly advance, but humans' ability to comprehend information will still remain the same speed. But I do understand the correlation they are trying to make.

With that said, I believe AI and quantum computing actually has the capability to have the opposite effect, and could actually make us less intelligent and more dependent in many areas of human development over time.

I never mentioned absorbing anything. I'm talking about the quantity of knowledge. I don't believe there is a single problem that exists that AI and Quantum computers can't solve. In the US, we actually pay farmers to NOT grow crops.

@Tanya456 My apologies in advance for such a long reply..

But what good is a quantity knowledge (regardless of source) if humans don't absorb it to become human knowledge? lol For it to actually become knowledge, it explicitly relies on that process. Without that process, human knowledge ceases to exist. Without anyone to interpret it, it remains just pixels on a screen and/or electrons on a computer's chip.

But again, there is only so much the human brain can compute within 12 hours, which is why the supposition that human knowledge can somehow double within 12 hours is ludicrous. Just think of how utterly MASSIVE even today's pool of human knowledge is.. and it's somehow expected that the human brain can absorb DOUBLE that within 12 hours? The human brain is incapable of that. Most people can't even read an entire book in 12 hours. Let alone the entire pool of human knowledge! lol I understand where that show was trying to go with it, but it's a deeply flawed and ridiculous assertion.

I believe AI has the capability to be beneficial in very specific fields, such as expediting and helping us solve things like curing cancer for instance. But even within that process it has the capability of making us less intelligent overall, because it removes the process of actually LEARNING all of the steps it takes to come to a conclusion, and all of the benefits and merits that come with that. The stuff that AI spits out is sort of like having all the answers for a test without actually learning all of the steps that gets you to those answers and those conclusions...

... Up until this point in human history, all of the knowledge we have attained as a species came from the process of observation, problem solving, ingenuity, creative writing, practical and analytical thinking, questioning, deductive reasoning, logic, etc. Instead of relying on, and developing those skills that are the very foundation of human learning and knowledge as we know it, AI breaks that chain and eliminates those processes out of the equation, as well as all of the merit that comes with it. Essentially, it has the capability of turning us from a transformative learning species, into a cumulative learning species. Where we only accumulate end results without learning all the steps it takes to come to those conclusions. That's where human intelligence resides. It's not in the actual end result, it's the transformative knowledge we gain from all of those processes, and figuring those things out for ourselves. THAT'S what we risk losing if we become reliant on AI and technology. I can see it being a benefit for things like medical science where human lives literally depend on the expediency of knowledge, but in the pursuit of AI solutions, we risk losing all of the processes of learning that has been the very foundation of human knowledge.

Anyway, there is SO much more that can be said about AI and quantum computing, as it is such an incredibly complex issue with such extensive implications in our society, but I simply don't have the time or energy for it. But it is a fool's paradise (not necessarily naming you) to believe AI comes with no pitfalls, and that there are no potential downsides. Some of them which could be quite detrimental. IMHO, AI has a very narrow scope of potential benefits. Sorry to seem so negative, but I mostly see it as a multi-faceted detriment than a "solution".

When the cure for your cancer is discovered by an IBM super computer... you're not going to give a flying fuck about the ability of humans. That's my point. The ONLY thing stopping the world from being "bliss on tap" is greedy fuckers on both sides of the isle.

@Tanya456 Which is why I mentioned how I think AI can actually be beneficial for curing cancer, and that it has a very narrow scope of potential benefits, such as in the field of medical advancement. I'm not sure why you're getting so upset. Perhaps you didn't read my reply.
