Is this to with antitrust action? I was interested enough to google. Don't live in the US by the way.
Overall the hallmark of Apple is it just works. Inter-operability has been the main theme outside of the Apple ecosphere but sometimes interoperability doesn't work as well as it ought.
Undoubtedly the consumer pays a premium for 'just working'. If I want more memory on an android I put in a larger sd card. With apple you buy a new iphone.
Apple is undoubtedly a proprietary system but consumers, especially in the US, have voted with their dollars on preferring the benefits it brings. Consumers outside the US have voted for the lower price sticker.
I think the anti-trust action is misguided even though I never have or will have Apple. The market is still competitive on function. Everybody benefits from Apple innovations cause they are duplicated elsewhere.

No.
That said, all tech companies (to include phone makers and service providers) are absolute scum, and are locked in a perpetual race to the bottom, so whenever one does something crappy, the others will follow.
