Here are some cool volunteer/internship programs I've heard of:
- WWOOF - Help out on organic farms all over Europe and get room/board. Great way to see rural areas.
- EuroFun - Does short-term projects like building schools in Eastern Europe. Sounds fun way to use skills and travel.
- Outward Bound - Does outdoor leadership programs all over the US and beyond. You'll get certified in stuff like rock climbing.
- Sierra Club - Has volunteers that help with trail maintenance and environmental projects. Could help spots like Yellowstone.
- Generation Citizen - Teaches civics in US schools. Could be rewarding to inspire youth about government process.
- BUNAC - Offers internships in the UK in fields like marketing, hospitality, etc. Could lead to full-time work there.
- Global Vision International - Medical volunteer abroad programs in places in Asia, Africa. You'd help remote clinic settings.
Let me know if any of those sound cool! I'm sure living abroad or doing meaningful work would be an experience of a lifetime. Wishing you the best finding the right fit.
My dad has a very smart co worker and his son went over seas to plant trees for a few years before getting a high paying management job using connections.
