What technology do you think someone from 50 years ago (70s) would be surprised that we have now?

I thought of this question while watching a Star Wars video and how some of the technology they were using in that film feels outdated by today's standards. Honestly, there’s so many answers, but food delivery is the one that comes to mind.

Cell phones would be pretty amazing to a person from the 70s. Not just being able to communicate with people all over the world but also being able to shop on line, exchange texts, send emails and all the apps that you can use. Also play music and videos and take pictures. These devices are really pretty amazing.

Someone from 50 years ago would be surprised that the wall telephone has been replaced by a smartphone that not only makes phone calls, it also replaces the library with its rapid access to information via the Interweb.

My parents and grandparents always had food delivery, I think everyone did, just not on an app.

Old TV shows and outer space shows had flying cars and TV telephones and jet packs, and things that were similar to our smartphones and even iPads.

No one saw the internet coming.

I remember that we had a milkman and a bread man and I seem to remember an egg man. Not everyone had access to a car. We only had one car and my father used to drive it to work so my mother was stuck at home and could not go shopping. A lot of people were in the same boat and there were delivery drivers that brought food to your house.

@exitseven My grandparents and great-grandparents had a Carnation Dairy milk man and they had an egg man who would come right in the house and put the eggs in a basket on the table (not refrigerated back then).

I think they’d be surprised the Tesla wasn’t a flying car (like in the Jetsons).

No. Because when you think about in 1972 we sent our last mission to the moon. I wasn't alive then. But from what I gather the prevailing attitude from society was that we would have colonized space within 50 years. I don't the avg. person had any inkling the challenges associated with such an undertaking or the cost. I don't think the avg. person really understands how far we were ahead of our technology at the time.

I would guess it would be the technology that exists in the current cellphones everyone seems to have

Videochat around the world on your phone. The internet. Probably a few other display technologies or 3D printers. Everything else is relatively mid.
