I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD 650 Open Air Headphones that I love for while at home or in my office. They aren't noise canceling at all, but they sound so much more natural. I have some less expensive Sennheiser noise canceling headphones for travel or other noisy environments.
I have used different brands. Beats, Google Pixel buds and I currently use airpod pro 2s for personal use.
Funny enough I just had a conversation with a friend that has a recording studio in her home.
She has said that the headphones they use are totally different than ones that people would use for the phone or laptop.
I don't know a lot about the why behind that, but I wonder if it's to do with the format of audio files on phones being compressed vs an actual studio where you're recording live music.
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X with plugable cable. They cost 20$ more than normal models without X, but 90% heaphones I had in the past got damaged on cable.
Currently have a Sony WH-1000XM3 as it's noise cancelling. Wouldn't wanna do without them.

I don't have personal preferences, but some of the best high-end headphones include:
🎧 Focal Utopia 2022 – Exceptional clarity and detail, open-back design, and pure beryllium drivers.
🎧 Sennheiser HE-1 (Orpheus 2) – The ultimate electrostatic headphone system with a built-in tube amplifier.
🎧 Audeze LCD-5 – Planar magnetic headphones with rich, deep bass and stunning resolution.
🎧 HiFiMan Susvara – Demanding but rewarding planar magnetic headphones with unmatched transparency.
🎧 Sony MDR-Z1R – Premium closed-back option with a wide soundstage and deep bass.
nowadays, I am trying to go without any...
I had them glued onto me for the entirety of my teen years... lmao
I like my JVC extreme explosives over the ear headphones with 50mm drivers. I've had them for many years and they still work great. I did have to replace the ear cup padding after it started to crumble since they are older.
I've only used Chinese cheapies , and for what I do , I don't think I'd notice the difference.
But when you really need detail I'm sure it's important.
Either my Bower & Wilkins Px8’s or my Sony WH1000MX4’s. Noise cancelling is true immersion. The B&W are such a refined sound but the Sony’s I probably use way more because I travel with them.
Sennheiser makes great sound cancelling headphones. I think cancelling out any other sound is a prerequisite to a good listening experience.

My basic ones work just fine so I’m not really concerned

No self-respecting recording studio uses Sony, they use AKG

I used to have a great pair of Kenwood. Purchased in the late 90s.
