If artificial intelligence can write code, generate it and even manage itself, then what's the role of flesh-and-blood beings?

Just a few jobs to watch supervise the a. i. that it is accurate and not going wild... Like when factory added many new types of machines, people were not needed anymore, just a few making various new machines... a few to manage machines that replaced many workers,
still even in programming someone is NEEDED to ask the a. i. so a layoff of thousands is shocking and really really not good.
I got a whatsapp message from a. i. social worker... just asking how i feel, also some multiple choice plus other questions... sadly i doubt a human is any better , because they can only listen and are powerless to change anything just like a chat bot. So all those psychologists and social workers and more are doomed.
Historically mass job losses have usually been in blue collar jobs, closure of mines, steel works, factories, that type of thing and the consequences for towns that rely on the work devastating. Governments usually just shrug their shoulders and tell the newly unemployed they're jobshy lazy layabouts.
But AI is different, it's going to wipe out office jobs across the country. From data entry clerks to computer programmers to those working in the financial sector. If your job can be replaced by AI it will be. Combine AI with machinery and you wipe out manual jobs too. We've shops here your luckily to see a staff member, it's all self service checkouts.
Apart from mass migration to less developed countries or the government releasing a deadly virus again the only solution is universal income.
Yes, but does the world need more IT guys and lawyers? I would prefer they serve me coffee instead.
Your coffee can easily be made by a machine.
@purplepoppy easy ; welfare state poppy 💪🏻

Try telling a class full of kids to study hard so they can get decent job when the only jobs available are cleaning toilets and picking litter.
@purplepoppy ill have you know mopping floors is the best job a fresh 20s early 20s fresh adult can have 🙂 - mop those floors and like it folks 😉 until the day you hit 25 and find a better job because , you worked for it and worked up to it 😁🥇🥇👌🏻
Well I think it won’t be long until almost any industry you can think of will be effected by Intelligence artificielle.
My hope is we will reach a point where human beings don’t need to work anymore at all and we can just live like to the fullest.
But there may be a lot of disruption before this.
Um, how will 65% pay rent when jobs don't need them? Crime?

Computers never really replaced people. Even though the typing pool was gone people just moved to new jobs.
However jobs were destroyed when manufacturing went to China and a lot of were put on the dole and never got off it. I think it will be more like that than typists getting new jobs.
It has been me versus primitive AI for quite a long time. I'll back my thinking against AI but the need for my thinking will probably disappear.
This time job losses will be in the upper levels not the lower levels with lawyers the target and not brick layers. Considerable social change is imminent.
The same thing people did when we invented the wheel, the ship, the internal combustion engine, planes, telephone, the computer itself, the internet, and so many more human innovations
We evolve
The jobs of tomorrow won’t be the same as the jobs of yesterday but there will always be work. Different things to do sure but always something
It’s not the end of the world yet
I’m glad you chose coding as an example because I am software engineer by trade.
Coding is (or was) my bread and butter.
While AI can conceptualize and write syntax I can’t create a software
In the last 15 years before AI everyone was relying on the internet to get their code
It was already largely copied and pasted
Now they don’t have to waste days making sure what they wrote fits together
When I was an intern it once took me all day to find an error that turned out to be a missing dot I didn’t see
The devs of tomorrow will have more of a lead role
Also there’s the issue of security which is true for every industry.
Here in France for example most companies have already blocked the use of ChatGPT and the other main AI platforms because they don’t want their data to end up in the hands of the “big evil Americans”
Obviously they don’t actually hate America but they prefer if sensitive information stayed private
And until we can run LLMs (AI) on a local machine we can’t use it for everything
And doing that requires having computers a thousand times stronger than what we have now
This won’t be possible for quite a few years still
I'm investing in shanty towns to house all the displaced workers. They'll have to pay me for rent, utilities, and food to exist in squalor. It's good to be a Capitalist who controls the existence of worthless peasants.
there will be massive unemployment. There will be many jobs that will be done by using AI and very few technical jobs will be created. There will be a few that will profit form it but most will suffer.
Superb! As usual... keep up the quality! 🥇👨🎓
There are already "dark factories" in China where no humans work, except perhaps one caretaker to make sure the machines keep running. What do you THINK will happen? It's obvious.
Well. Only certain industries will be affected.
To sit and goon while watching ai.
Just freakin abolish the concept of jobs
They will disappear.
What is IA?
I Robot…..
