Is MacKeeper a safe option for your computer?

I have a Mac and have been getting a repeating opo-up that asks me to open a window with an IP on it, and I ignored it. However it keeps coming up and I k now Macs are safe and don't need an Antivirus because they come protected with one, but they may get malware, which is what I think this is.

Anyway I did buy MacKeeper, but when I bought it, I got a window with some technicians listed on them asking me to help set up the Mackeeper. When I clicked on it, someone was asking me to click on a window with a white circle and a blue cross. I did, and then he was asking me to open up Accessibility to allow him to connect with me.

Years ago I was almost scammed and so when this happened, I thought of that experience and shut my computer down as I had clicked on Access already, and other windows were popping up to send an authorization code to MacKeeper, which I never saw where it was sent to.

So when I turned on the computer again, I saw my background in now plain without my picture background that I had set up on it.

IS anyone here familiar with this? Was this s possible scammer? I intend to call up the customer service for this program and tell them this to see if that man was legit or a scammer.

I finally found the culprit that was causing constant pop-ups in my Notifications. I took a picture of the pop-up, and it was from a source I did not know, called ixzc4. borderretahntent. com. I don't know what it is, and why it is in my Notifications. and I can't get rid of it either. But I turned the notifications off for it, and now it is not able to come up anymore.

Although I don't know about that particular software, in general, and considering Macs are rather safe, I don't see to what use extra safety software would be. The few times I tried some well known antivirus, the balance disadvantages versus usefulness was bad in general: annoying processes, computer slowed down, etc. Since then I never use any antivirus anymore, but!!! You probably should be more carefull with how you surf the Web ! Mind that Windows has an integrated antivirus that does not disturb the user.

A good procedure consists in only accepting essential cookies; deleting all temporary files regularly; avoiding clicking on anything randomly; never accepting accessibility priorities; never give passwords to anyone; never accept payments to be done automatically, and even don't accept payment datas to be registered in the wallet of your browser, the so-called "Save and fill payment methods": DON'T !

In a few words: keep your eyes open, keep your attention on what you do, be selective, and learn more about your computer and system.

No, its malware that opens a backdoor on your device.
That said, macs don't need antivirus software.
Uninstall it, get a refund, and factory reset your mac.

Being I paid for it already, I will not renew it next June '26, which I noted on my calendar already! I don't know if I can goer a refund. I was able to get rid of the annoying pop-ups as I found under notifications for something I never heard of and don't know what it is..

Keeping the software on your mac exposes it to attack and results inyour data getting stolen.
Refund or not, delete it and factory reset, or risk losing everything.

Even windows no longer needs a third party antimalware service, and linux never did, so there is no antimalware product that isn't itself malware and isn't itself a scam.

That is a scammer. Macs are NOT safe and they DO need anti-virus software. I recommend Malwarebytes.

I heard of MacKeeper when I used YouTube to see if Macs needed antivirus. A man on a video said Macs are safer than most computers because they are harder to hack than others. and come with an antivirus already. However they do get malware. This is when he talked about MacKeeper, and so I gave it a try.
Tomorrow I will call Apple itself and find out more about this.

As a former security specialist I will tell you that Macs are no safer than any other computer. Don't believe the Apple marketing crap.

I have used Sophos for a long, long time, but Mackeeper is fine.

Yes. It works fine, I just like Sophos. Either will do the job.
