Is "Nextdoor. com" safe?

There's a place called next-door. com (online or on an app) where you share news with nearby (and sometimes a little farther away) neighbors. You can sell and buy stuff, you can ask for recommendations for plumbers, electricians. and so on.

There is a tax person who recently posted about his services. He is a former CPA for 40 years, and his fees are low for filing your taxes. I messaged him and asked him how he goes about getting documents from people and so on. He does it via email (which I had done last yr with my former NJ tax person. He has messaged me back now 4 times--once to introduce himself and asked for my email and phone to communicate with him, then twice again to see if I was still interested in having him do my taxes, and then last--when I finally gave him a different email (mine but I rarely use it), he said he's send me some questions to answer for him before we meet at a public place. He had said he'd meet me at. public place "so I can feel more comfortable" and then later said he'd meet me at my home or his. Of course, I'd meet him at the library in town and not at my home or his. With so many scammers--I'm hesitant and may just ignore his messages--I've seen them everywhere--from even a game I play with my cell, and on meetup groups where I belong to different clubs. What do you think?

it's actually a pretty cool place. Got lots of info about what's going on around me from there, but I just wouldn't trust anyone with my personal documents like that. Too much risk, even if he's a legit tax helper guy. Also, sounds pushy and that's annoying to me and sometimes a sign of a scammer.

My thoughts exactly. Too pushy about sending him my email and also phone number. One message is fine--and I would have messaged him right on the next-door site, but 4 times was too much. It was actually 5 because he sent me a form to put my tax information without meeting first at the public place. I hate to sound paranoid but there's a lot of stuff that can happen online.
It can be a good place, yes! I got a nice furniture piece that's very classy, an outdoor metal set, and a rug that originally cost (they still had the tag) about $4,000 for $400. Handmade in China with fringes and in great condition; I used it to make my home more appealing when I was selling it.

I'm on Nextdoor, and it's safe. Just remember that there are some weird people who post things.

I was on Nextdoor and kept getting banned for having a fake name my name isn’t fake it’s on all my documents so how is it fake?


I saw a cat in my garden and I posted a photo and so many people claimed it was theirs and said they wanted to come to my house to see, I’m not mental I’m not giving out my address and because I wouldn’t give I got abused and banned for a fake name yet again. It’s a pointless app full of fake names and no photos. I’ve given up with it now,


I wouldn’t personally give out any personal information to anyone just do the taxes yourself it’s safer.

No one website is safe. It just depends what you will lose if provider of this site sells illegally your data or some hackers steal it. You should be always very careful if a website demand bank account or credit card data, the best way is to avoid it at all.

Next-door doesn't make you provide that information, but I think anyone with bad intentions can onto that site and do whatever he/she wants to do.

I haven't used it and see no need to, but it sounds a lot like Facebook neighborhood watch pages (at least as I recall them). Some businesses I'm sure are legit and use the platform as advertising or to make services available, but there's a lot of potential for misuse and scams. I treat anything digital with caution.
