Google turns 27 today. The phrase "just Google it," is so common place when it comes to just about anything from trying to figure out how to change your oil by yourself, to what's that weird bump on my arm, to who won the 2006 Superbowl.

Do you think we could live without Google now?
How has Google really impacted the world?
Has Google become an overreach with new AI tech?

Google as concern is an information warfare tool created and supported by US government for many reasons. Original intention of google was suppressing other search engines internet, gain market domination and destroy competition.
Now is google a multipurpose tool that generates income and grants lucrative sinecures, google employees are often used to program surveillance tools despite "don't be evil" phrase used by their leadership.
Just insert English term "white couple" (result might differ in other languages) in picture search and you will see how manipulative google is and all other search engine which use google engine and backbone for their service. It seems decision core of google team still didn't get the message who rules US now. lol

Absolutely! It has changed the world in so many ways. The amount of information I can find without having to leave the house is amazing whilst in the past people would have to buy heavy encyclopedias or got to a library to learn about certain things.

Google has a mixed history but on the whole, I'd say their corporate governance has guided then to a net positive impact on humanity. Their search engine and browser laid the tracks and cleared the land for an interconnected human civilization. Which is to say Google pioneered a viable business model and the tech. YouTube is probably the least sleazy and most useful free social media site worldwide. Gmail is probably the premier free mail application. They've pioneered online advertising. They pioneered Cloud computing. They pioneered AI They contributed to mobile devices and mobile OS's

Im always saying ask goggle. When I was 3. 4 5 years old if we would of had what we have today. Who knows. But kids in today's world. Well all of us we have the world in our hands

Now if we could or goggle could only make it in to a world that we would all be proud of. That's what GAG needs.

Well you kind of need to think of life previously , which many you here could not even fathom ( purely due to age ) ..

Sadly now , sponsored results come up first not always relevant , and there is some decent competition now , but an incredible USA success story..

Could have used it in Uni to streamline things.

Google Maps have made road atlases and paper maps obsolete. Well it's only 27 years old, so the world did just fine without Google.. But Google has definitely made things easier.. It's an amazing platform and tool to easily search up what you need.. But the downfall is that it limits information instead of truly being the library it was meant to be.. Now you have to type things in in certain ways to actually get a different answers and opinions..

yeah but i think the original "google" will very soon fade into obscurity. cause google has turned into shit. googling now longer shows you "most relevant results". instead it shows adverts and fake news. most people these days are already using ai instead of google to look shit up.

Google is free so it can only be mining our data and controlling our lives. Also it sucks as a search engine an the AI feature just plagiarizes content that's already on the web, which may or may not be reliable.

In summary, Google bad. But you could always try DuckDuckGo or Tor.

I always use Google. I just turned off all the settings related to saved searches, history and so on and lock down all the privacy settings. It is astonishing how many people still don't know how to do that.

I found it useful when I wanna search things, even using gmail. Got lots of email actually. I used them when I want to sign up on another website with a new account. I still forget some of their passwords. But luckily google has a smart way of logging in using pin code linked to my pc. I also liked using google earth when I wanna check out different places around the world, let alone my own country. Their innovations like this should keep growing. I wonder whats next.
