Do you prefer a manual car or an automatic?

It depends. I've owned a lot of cars and a lot of sports cars.

• A manual transmission is fun and it gives me something to do while driving. It also makes you think about engine speed, gear selection, and makes you a better driver IMHO.
• Where I live traffic has gotten so bad or my patience has word so thin that I just got tired of a manual transmission that ceased to be fun in stop and go traffic for 2 hours at a time morning and night. Hence my last 2 sports cars have been AMG's with automatic transmissions.
• There is no longer any argument that a dual clutch automatic is much faster than any human at selecting gears. And even torque converter based automatics today are superior to 99% of people rowing through a manual gearbox and stomping a clutch pedal. Flappy paddles on steering wheels allow you to upshift or downshift at the touch of a button.

Automatic for me. I had a few manual vehicles when I was a teenager. It's just an extra job to do while driving. I used to enjoy eating burgers and stuff while driving, and having to shift gears wasn't very practical. I also liked to do stuff in my vehicles with my girlfriend at the time, and the gear shift can get in the way. A pickup truck with an automatic transmission , and a bench seat was ideal back then.

I prefer automatic for road travel.

I drove a manual for some years in daily rush hour traffic.
I quickly tired of shifting from 1st, 2nd, to stop, 1st, 2nd, to stop, 1st, 2nd, to stop, over and over again.
Ughh!

Manuals have in their places in work situations and in racing.
