I learned on a manual, and I also drive "manual" more often now because I drive motorcycles and they are "manual" literally the clutch is your hand, but the transmission shifts with your foot so technically maybe they are "pedal"?
But my truck is an automatic; I drive that on the rare occasion it rains in California, or if I have to go get some groceries or do laundry or something. But my motorcycles are my primary choice on the daily.
It's my impression manual transmissions have been phased out. I don't see them in modern vehicles, though I suppose there might be some specialty vehicles that still use them. I don't know, like a construction vehicle or something?.

I can drive either one. For many years, I had a stick shift VW Rabbit, which was fun to drive. My then-wife and many of my friends (plus my kids as they got older) didn't know how to drive a stick, so they couldn't borrow my car. Because of that, since then, my car has been an automatic.
One time, many years ago, my boss and I went on a business trip to England and he rented a car. The rental place only had manual stick shifts, and he told me he didn't know how to drive one. So I did all the driving, as we traveled to various places in England, meeting with our business partners.
I used to drive a stick shift, which is what I was taught on. Once you learn when and how to shift gears, it's literally never a problem again. Automatics just make that whole process easier.
I don't get why people have such a boner for manual transmissions, though.
I learned to drive on a standard. My own vehicle is an automatic. The vehicle I drive at work is an 18 speed standard.

Both of my current vehicles are autos - you can't buy a work van with a manual that's any newer than 20 years old - and my other car is a "luxury" car, even if only barely. Having said that, my first 7 or 8 cars were manuals, and I've driven just about every common type of land vehicle there is, from motorcycles to 18-wheelers, and most of them were manuals.
In the UK the vast majority of people learn to drive manuals and until recently manuals were the majority of cars driven.
These days modern autos are becoming far more common.
both my cars have Sports Auto boxes, allow an element of manual via paddles or stick but can be put into various auto modes as well.I have driven both since single digits. Raised on a farm. Learned on an older tractor.
Auto’s are good for traffic jams and turbo charged diesel pickup trucks.
Sticks are good for fun and snow. Also for security. Since so many car jackers seem not to know how to drive them!
Have driven most things from bicycles to loco’s!I prefer manual trans, but I drive both. Of my 5 current cars, 4 are automatics. I'm strongly considering rounding up the parts to swap out the TH400 on my 69 Camaro back to the Muncie 4 speed it's supposed to have.
I hate Automatics, I prefer Stick shift and I really like the 3 in the tree manual
https://www.youtube.com/embed/8kInABLa9t0No, I don't have a low opinion for not having brand new shit. I'll have a low opinion if you don't try at all and don't take care of yourself. If you're putting in effort that's all I care about.
I drove manuals for a long time, and learned to do high performance downshifts. Now what I really want is a paddle-shifting double-clutch sports car.
I used to drive a manual. Once that car got old I've driven automatics. I don't see too many manuals anymore.

I drive manual and sadly my car is manual as well🥲
I have a F-150 pickup truck. It is not available with a standard transmission. If I could get one I would.
I can drive both but my current car is an auto and I'm regretting it. The transmission got a leak and it was FUCKING expensive to fix. I'm seriously thinking of just getting a manual again.
I have one of both. C4 Corvette and Lincoln Navigator
only a manual what else is there to drive you don't drive an auto it dose the work for you!
Current daily is a manual, kinda regret it honestly
We have an automatic transmission with the manual option (moving the shifter to the left) which I used when off road or mountain driving.
I probably forgot how to drive manual, it's been so long.
