It’s frustrating seeing republicans treat AI and technology as inherently evil instead of understanding that technology itself is amoral. There is so much misinformation out there, especially in the church. I work in the industry and have done academic research on it. If conservatives dislike the direction AI is heading, then they should help shape its development and policy rather burying their head in the sand. It’s becoming really difficult for me to want to vote republican moving forward at this point. I essentially agree with the core principles of the Republican Party, but the sheer ignorance is astounding. I feel like I can’t even talk to some of these people without getting frustrated. They’re so blindly set in their beliefs and will not listen to reason in my experience.

It’s not an absolute statement, but the data and my anecdotal experience leans that direction.

People in general are xenophobic towards new technologies. Especially towards ground breaking new technologies. The same was true during industrialization where people were scared that machines would take our jobs. Now they're scared that ai will take our jobs. And certain jobs will vanish but new jobs will emerge and people will adapt. It is what it is.

It’s not baseless though. The data shows this to be true. Most people who work in this industry and tech in general are not republican. Not many maga hats in the Silicon Valley lol. I don’t say this as a dig to republicans, but rather frustration. Tech and AI is the Wild West right now, and instead of the Fox mantra about how education is useless and complaining about it, I think they should promote STEM education. There should be more conservative voices in the development of this technology.

Data from surveys historically show republican voters show more disdain and skepticism toward newer technology in general. The vast majority of stem graduates are democratic voters. Perhaps I’m conflating my anecdotal experience, but it’s what I see. My church is filled with people spewing conspiracy theories about AI and technology. It’s sheer ignorance. I can’t stand it. Then I see Fox News put on and it’s some host saying that college is a waste of time. However, you got Peter Thiel, Elon and other prominent names from the right now in the industry which is something to consider.

The lines blur fast. Kirk literally had a booked titled “The College Scam”. The general push is that trades are superior. Prominent voices often mock those in 100k+ in student loan debt who cannot find work, often negating the fact that their salary will be higher and they’ll earn more in their lifetime despite the debt incurred. Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” capped federal grad loans and excluded nursing, social work, and education from the higher “professional” tier, making it harder to pursue those degrees right when we have shortages. That initiative has merit toward the narrative I’m illustrating here. It’s also worth considering how effective this rhetoric is considering the amount of republican voters versus democratic voters who are educated. But yes, I’m familiar with the don’t major is lesbian dance theory mantra
