Even though both mountain ranges are divided in a vast country like the USA,both offer something interesting and very pretty scenery. First of all the Sierra Nevada Mountains offer high mountain ranges,western Ghost Towns, Lake Tahoe,and casinos. The Great Smoky Mountains/Blue Ridge offer lush green forests, cheesy tourist areas, awesome folk legends, and awesome motorcycle riding opportunities. First off let's look at the Sierra Nevada's

I live in the Valley (Knoxville) which is on the edge of the mountains. (About a 30 minute drive from Gatlinburg and 1.5 hours to NC.) I used to live in the Foothills part of the mountains (Maryville). They offer a nice view, but unfortunately being lush also means the allergens are so intense that I can only enjoy it from the distance. :( I would love to check out the Rockies that are apparently not as lush though for sure

Two things to add: the Appalachian mountains are some of the oldest mountains in the world. At one point, they were much higher (even as tall as Everest) but have been worn down with time.

Also, the Sierra Nevadas are full of bears. Like, full of them.

To clarify though, the Smoky Mountains are full of "gimme your food nom nom nom" bears whereas the Sierra Nevadas are full of "I WILL END YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FOR LOOKING AT ME WRONG" bears.
