Visits to India many years ago brought me to mostly crowded locales. Despite the overwhelming friendliness of the locals, I didn't feel welcome to travel around at my own pace nor was I taken seriously about where I wanted to go. We were always taken to see temples which I got fed up of. However, I will admit that the Taj Mahal is a breathtaking site to behold. And, the massive Red Fort is impressive indeed. Some of the beaches we were taken to were swarming with people.

Beside the beauty & grandeur I appreciated, I also can't help but notice trash & odor all throughout the cities. It was kinda like "day & night" in contrast. Our guides & hosts were too eager to please, it was beginning to feel fake. I still won't discredit them for being very courteous & friendly.

I'd like to give India a shot again in the future where I hope to see uncommercialized west coast beaches with very little people, experience some intimate river travels & take in the sight of the Himalayas from the Indian side.

I'd suggest you to Visit shimla, Ooty and Kerala.. These are less crowded places and quite beautiful. India population has been increased drastically so it's better don't visit temples and beaches.

I've seen India through the eyes of Bollywood. While the landscape of India is really beautiful, I can't undo other factors that comes along. Will definitely visit India in the coming years. I would love to go to Kullu manali, Shimla and the pilgrimage areas.

Built by Greeks in the Greek style with Greek building techniques for the mughals not far from where the Greeks had a colony and kingdom by the Greek pupils of a famous Greek who was the arichtect of the Süleymaniye Mosque for the Ottomans. The ottomans were inspired by the hagia Sofia.

Typical uneducated Brit. The Taj Mahal was built by Mughals from Persian design with specific Muslim influences. Greeks are nowhere in the picture as their heyday in India was at least a thousand years before the Mughals. Even the Greeks themselves based their culture on the Persians. The myth in western superiority crumbles in the face of historical facts as we realize all true civilization originated in asia.

@saeyamazaki Greece was a territory of the ottoman empire. The ottomans took many Greeks Christians into their janassarie corps. The best arictects in the ottoman empire came from janassarie corp and were Greek. Hagia Sofia is in Constantinople built by the Greeks. The Greeks were all over the the mediterean, North Africa, middle East, black sea, central Asia, Asia minor, Afganistan and India. The last free unconquered independent Greek kingdom was in India. The first statues of budha were carved by Greeks in India.

I see what you mean but I don't think the Taj Mahal is an example of Greek architecture since its Mughal architecture, which is a style that combines elements of Persian, Indian and Islamic architecture and sure some of the architecture was derived from the Greek but it's too far off to say it's Greek architecture and even wherever you look you won't find anything say the Taj Mahal has any relation to Greek Architecture whatsoever.

Mimar Sinan's architectural concepts were incorporated into the design of the famous Taj Mahal., in the Mughal Empire by Shah Jahan.
At the start of his career as an architect, Sinan had to deal with an established, traditional domed architecture. His training as an army engineer led him to approach architecture from an empirical point of view, rather than from a theoretical one. He started to experiment with the design and engineering of single-domed and multiple-domed structures. He tried to obtain a new geometrical purity, a rationality and a spatial integrity in his structures and designs of mosques. Through all this, he demonstrated his creativity and his wish to create a clear, unified space. He started to develop a series of variations on the domes, surrounding them in different ways with semi-domes, piers, screen walls and different sets of galleries. His domes and arches are curved, but he avoided curvilinear elements in the rest of his design, transforming the circle of the dome into a rectangular, hexagonal or octagonal system. He tried to obtain a rational harmony between the exterior pyramidal composition of semi-domes, culminating in a single drumless dome, and the interior space where this central dome vertically integrates the space into a unified whole. His genius lies in the organization of this space and in the resolution of the tensions created by the design. He was an innovator in the use of decoration and motifs, merging them into the architectural forms as a whole. He accentuated the centre underneath the central dome by flooding it with light from the many windows.
