Ten Bus Drivers Anyone Who Rode The Bus To School Would Know

• 1. The cool one

We all had those drivers that were cool. Let you do what you want, let you bring friends on the bus, get on and off where you wanted, gave you candy (sometimes full-sized ones or even soda if you had a real cool one). Hardly ever yelled or raised his/her voice. As long as you were well behaved, they were cool. If you're not it could turn into the next kind of driver

• 2. The strict one

The strict bus driver is not a driver who is "mean" per say just strict rules. No eating, no drinking, assigned seats, and if you break any rule, you get written up. Pretty much has the rules laid out and must follow them to the letter.

• 3. The creep

We all know that one driver who just gave off.... Weird vibes. Not saying he is a bad person (or she maybe) but may be been caught checking out the girls or doing something questionable.

• 4. The mean one

These drivers are insufferable. Someone is always into trouble. Sometimes yelling and screaming the whole ride to school and home. If you thought the strict driver was bad. This driver is to a whole new level. Your shoelace being in the isle, eating, drinking a water bottle, talking too loudly, etc. Can set off a long tirade, rant, or rave. Also pulling over everywhere

• 5. The one who pulls over

This could go along with the mean driver but a driver who always pulls over and makes you late getting to school and getting home

This driver said he would sit here until you behave

• 6. Left behind

We all had that one driver who if you were running late getting to the bus stop. He or she would just leave you stranded. on such a tight schedule that even if the bus was early if you are not at the stop too bad. You could be almost to the bus and they will close the door and drive away.

• 7. Always late

This one is the other way around from the left behind driver. This is the driver who is never on time and always 5, 10, 15, 30, a hour, over a hour or more late every single day. There is always some reason why your driver is late and you're sitting outside wondering where the bus is.

• 8. Always lost

We all had that one driver or subs who never knew where they were going wrong turns, missed stops, sometimes even picking up the wrong kids in the morning. You would always need to give them directions.

• 9. The bad driver

We all had a driver at some point who did not know how to drive. You would get on the bus everyday worried if you would make it home and wondering how this driver managed to get a CDL. Maybe the bus driver shortage? Always hitting curbs, mailboxes, maybe even having wrecks. These were not fun drivers to ride with.

10. The old driver

The driver who you wonder if they should even be driving a bus....

I have had a few drivers in high school who I thought was really cute

• The one who tries too hard

A driver but a driver who tries way too hard to fit in. Many people have had a driver like this who tried making jokes that did not stick or butchered the latest slang.

• The crazy one

A rarer driver but a driver plenty of people have had including myself. You wonder are they on something?

Interesting. I never rode the bus except for a couple field trips, BUT I was a school bus driver myself.

I had rules they had to follow, like staying in their seat, nothing out the windows, no eating on the bus (they can choke and the driver won't be able to help until they are likely dead), but if they were good and didn't leave trash on the bus and there wasn't behavior problems I would bring snacks for them sometimes. Starbursts, suckers, Jolly Ranchers, chips, and one time packs of Oreo cookies. I was usually 1 minute early to stops and stayed until 1 minute after the departure time. They could use cell phones on the bus to play games, but not music because music would almost always end up being something inappropriate. No recording with phones on the bus. Yes, there were cameras on the bus recording video and audio to monitor the students' behavior so they would almost always get caught if they did something wrong. I only had to suspend 2 students from the bus in the time I drove. I did pull over a few times if students misbehaved by cussing in the bus after being warned. (Middle school students.)

My district did (and still does) have two mean ones that try to get people in trouble and write them up any chance they get for minor things (even being hypocritical too with the do as I say not as I do mentality.)

There is also an old guy that retired from his previous job and does bus driving out of boredom. He is also the bad driver that has crashed 3 times. Only once with students on board into a parked car. Once into a pols in the depot parking lot and another time into one of our other buses in that same depot lot.

My district did have one driver that was far too late repeatedly. He made others late when waiting for transfers. He got fired over it.

We also had a nasty driver that would always fart. It sounded like wet ones. In the break room people would joke that he probably shit his pants. He even farted intentionally on his bus when the students were onboard. I told him that he was the rudest person I had ever worked with. he still works there and is still farting. lol

Thanks for your answer!!! I had a driver who literally would cuss us out. She told us we couldn’t eat on the bus but would eat herself and said because she’s a adult and doesn’t trash the bus. 😂. She wrote lots up for minor things.

Many of my drivers were cool unless you crossed them. But she was kind of nice to me. She was a sub. But it was a open route meaning we had her. A lot.

There was another old guy who looked like Walter the Jeff Dunham puppet. Who would just yell like a drill sergeant the whole ride.

I had one lady on a field trip and I knew some people who had her as a driver. Let’s just say I think I know where they got the inspiration for Miss Crabtree

Most my drivers were pretty cool though and I know they have a tough job. Thanks for the insight!

Some drivers play favorites too. They don’t like getting the kids in trouble that they like but are anal retentive and make the bus ride a living hell for those they don’t.

The one lady was also a hypocrite. Because she could cuss and swear at us. But we couldn’t say anything bad

I always had the old drivers , seems like they were already retired and decided to drive a school bus as an income afterwards, some were cranky but usually ok
