+1 yYou can go to any non-hostile country you want, just take a man with you. No place is completely safe, even Europe has pretty high crime against women alone.
There was a very brave woman who went through South East Asia and Europe and Northern Africa on a long hiking adventure. For the most part, she was fine. People were nice to her in most places and didn't have trouble. And she was documenting her journey on some social media platform. One day she stopped updating. She got captured by some hostile group who held her for ransom. Well, she's dead now, after being raped hundreds of times by many people. So no, I cannot recommend in good conscience for you to travel without male company. Most likely you'll be fine, but it takes one rape, one assault to ruin your life forever.113 Reply

Is that an actual story? Why don’t you share the link?
- +1 y
@Dream_vacation 'Cause the story is about 2 years old. You can look it up. I just don't have time to go find the story. It was pre-covid.
- +1 y
It would be good if you shared the link instead because you brought it up. Your story is a little too generic to search for succinctly.
- +1 y
@Dream_vacation Well, you'll just have to live in doubt. If you want to find it, you can.
- +1 y
Also you if you wanted people to believe you you’d share the story. Apparently you don’t care about being credible.

I looked for it and couldn't find it but I found this one.

@Dream_vacation I didn't claim anything, nimrod. I explained the perils of traveling alone as a women, I wasn't making a philosophical argument. You are free to do any research on it you like if you wish to contest a point, but I am not obligated to do any research for you. If you're too damn lazy, well that's on you. It's not incumbent on me to provide you with knowledge nor to do any of your homework. Everything I said is verifiable and falsifiable. Knock yourself out, if you have a problem.
- +1 y
@Dream_vacation No, I don't care. Cause your a douche.

No, I'm not kidding. The visits and the traveller will be so tightly controlled that it will be pretty much impossible for them to fall victim of a crime. Plus North Korea is genuinely fascinating - if not for his unique political system, for it's culture and traditions that are pretty much the only thing not touched by the regime.
Naturally, be 100% respectful all the time especially when talking about the current and past leaders - keep in mind the golden adage - ''If you got nothing positive to say, don't say nothing at all!'' and you'll be safe.38 Reply
Asker+1 yIs it true that we can't take any picture there?
- +1 y
Yes and no. You can take pictures at your leisure, but not of soldiers, military checkpoints/outposts, construction sites and overall things that make the country look bad. You are encouraged to take photos of statues and monuments, but they have to capture the monument entirely, especially if it depicts one of the leaders. You can't cut off any part of the statue.
Generally when you go home the guards will check your photos and just delete the inappropriate ones. You don't risk anything, but it's better to follow their guidelines.
If you behave particularly well and respectfully, you might get a prize too.
Asker+1 yI see. Thank you for telling me this.

+1 yAny developed world country. I live in Croatia, it's safe to travel as a female. Also I've heard Eastern Europe (minus warzone/occupied parts of Ukraine) is also much safer than portrayed in media. Italy, Southern Europe in general. Because of too many hostile Middle Eastern immigrants who are doing rape crimes too often, I've heard Scandinavia which used to be heaven on earth, and Germany which never was heaven but it was safe, nowadays aren't safe for women to travel.
Czechia, Slovakia, Malta, Slovenia, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, Russia (big cities but they have many to choose from, and villages, only avoid smaller towns like 30- 100 k people, they are dodgy), Finland, Estonia, Baltic Countries, most of Balkan countries, except Albania I don't know, I don't trust them, Netherlands, Belgium... There are many safe destinations in Europe. Singapore seems very safe too.
I reasearched a lot and found most scary to visit alone for a young girl or woman are Japan and Korea (lots of creeps, stalkers, men touching girls inappropriately in public transportation, following until your place of stay and other very creepy things), and USA. Also China is suspicious a bit, but not because of creeps, but eeh... Communist control, police country... Although some go and live there alone. Vietnam is a big no (overly aggressive police, weird too early visa expiration proclamation cases etc), also, from what I heard, Indonesia (aggressive people on street?). I personally also wouldn't go to southern American countries involved in narco cartel alone. Unless I had a friend I can fully trust to there, who would be with me all the time and would be knowledgeable local guide.00 Reply
+1 yEvery country is unsafe for a girl (and guy) travelling on her own.
if you accept that, then you can look at how you make things safer, look at the types of risks, the types of situations and look at how to mitigate.
its pointless thinking oh Iceland, New Zealand are safe, as the psycho is also on holiday there.
have you travelled alone before
Do you know any, even basic self defence
Can you afford to use you mobile abroad..
what budget is available for travelling,
etc20 Reply
+1 yThat's actually a subjective question. Many people can suggest this country or that country but the truth is it comes down to being travel savvy. One place someone recommends as "safe" but someone else has a differenceof opinion. I have traveled quite a bit through both sides of Mexico and same sex couples are not always excepted by everyone.
50 ReplyI've travelled to many countries , virtually always on my own its by far the best way to travel , who wants to be tied down by another? Most of Europe , extremely safe , Denmark , Sweden , Australia ( extremely safe ) ..
Asia , many single women travel to Thailand ( normally ) , Singapore.. So may places really , just use some common safety procedures..
Funnily enough where they were always telling me off for walking alone was USA , but Im an Aussie , thats normal stuff. I didn't find it dangerous , but they made out it was..
" Daves bar " in Springfield , and a few issues in North Carolina , but all good.
Plenty of places to go , so glad you want to do it :)
I live in Thailand by the way , its very safe , used to tourists.03 Reply- +1 y

You should obviously avoid areas of conflict.
Note that this advice does NOT apply currently due to covid.20 ReplyIt's hard to suggest safe places anymore. Amusement parks or places with people and security. However if you really want to be safe be prepared for unsafe situations, carry protection and don't hesitate to use it. Learn self defense. Make the places you go safe by being ready.

I have traveled solo in many European countries. Northern Europe is for sure safe.. France, Spain, Germany and Italy are also fine.. nothing remotely uncomfortable happened to me travelling as a woman alone.
I also traveled with female friends in Eastern Europe, Japan, North America and Chile.10 ReplyThere is one place in the world Japan , the name is Reason

Canada, Finland, New Zealand, Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Uruguay, Japan, Chile, Iceland. All of these countries have really low crime rates against women and are very beautiful places to visit.10 Reply- 645 opinions shared on Travel topic.

+1 yWell I’m biased to China but I do think it’s a relatively safe country to travel also East Asia in general there is less crime towards women. DON’T go to India as a woman. Probably most western countries are safe. Excluding Latin American countries for the most part. Unless you count the white majority ones like Argentina or Chile. And uh yeah that might be it. The Middle East I’m sure they’re not too bad either.

@Boppy As far as I know, they''re pretty safe! I searched for rapes in nudist colonies and only found one incident that wasn't really even a rape! Some sacuzzy asshole talked his way into joining and eventually tried to molest an 11 year old girl. It never got more than him touching her inappropriately so, even that didn't turn out to be a rape.
- +1 y
Yeah but that is sexual assault especially child that's a serious charge I think it was a made-for-tv movie or something to that effect but yeah if I'm an start any kind of trouble or looks at women the wrong way on a nudist colony they will be kicked out so fast your head will spin

In most countries you will probably be safe (though you may get catcalled) as long as you don't walk in the open streets at night or associate with questionable people (men should not do such things either of course). The exception is China where there is a significant amount of domestic violence indoors, but it is very rare for people to hide out in alleyways and attack people they don't know, so it is ok to be out in the dark there.
