I <3 Ireland. Even though my ancestors on both sides of my family came to the U. S. in the 1850s, I have Irish blood through and through. I've visited the Republic on vacation twice.

Very faint Irish blood…where did you visit?

The first time I visited, in 1986, I spent a week. Some of the things I remember are: going inside the Newgrange passage tomb before there was a visitor center; parts of Co. Wexford where my paternal family originated; the Ring of Kerry; Galway; Clonmacnois; had a wonderful experience in Athlone (when it was just a town) where they were having a fair; a medieval feast at Bunratty Castle; I kissed the Blarney Stone.

In 2007, my wife and I spent two weeks. A lot had changed, modernized and grown since the first time I was there. We spent a couple of days in Dublin and then worked our way counter clockwise and did so many things that I couldn't possibly list them. Amazing bed and breakfasts; castles; ancient cathedrals; Tara; Vinegar Hill; the Bog of Allen; towns, cities; museums; the famine ship in New Ross, much of the Dingle peninsula; lots of ancient Celtic and early Christian art and artifacts; the Bunratty Folk Park; A medieval feast at Knappogue Castle; the Three Sisters Lakes; ...

I've never visited Ulster.

We drove through the area. I know we visited the Rock of Cashel. It's beautiful country and there is so much to see and do in just that single county. I want to go back. :-)
