What do you think of Paris?

If you like architecture, cultural heritage etc... Paris really is an absolute gem. There's just so much to see. And there's so much to do outside of that too. Its really a cool city in those respects. Tons of neat places to hang out, eat, drink. Can be really chill. Especially when the weather is nice and warm (does happen in summer lol). It's a bit on the expensive side but it's a capital city and they always are.

For a big city with millions of residents and many more tourists flowing in and out it just wasn't designed for such a massive flow of people, it really lacks the infrastructure to cater to them on all levels. Transport, roads, garbage disposal etc... So it ends up being quite dirty, claustrophobic and uncomfortable at times.

Some areas are downright shitholes for no reason whatsoever, even in seemingly high end areas. 'Gard du Nord' is just a refuge for dodgy as fuck people. When I came back in the first week I was there the police were called in on 4 separate incidents in the subway in broad daylight. The police is armed to the teeth but don't seem to be very effective at stopping any regular crime lol

Paris without tourists could be nice enough :)
Like any other BIG town I haven't enjoyed crowds and traffic when I was there.
Least promoted and thus most intriguing to me are the catacombs.

Otherwise: I find France a lot MORE nice in the South and South-West :)

La manière dont le monde dépeint Paris est vraiment hilarante, à la limite de la parodie.
in my opinion suffers from an over-exotic and over-romantic representation in worldwide culture. It's still a beautiful city with many many many beautiful monuments, great architectural pieces and diverse things to do and places to see and visit. But it's a big city, including some not so romantic places, pollution, lot of traffic, etc. My 2nd point is Paris is vastly overrated comparing what the rest of France has to offer. Many other cities have their own sights, culture, like Bordeaux, Marseille, etc. Outside these cities some regions have so much spirit and essence like brittany, or Provence. It would be a shame to pass on these and simply go to Paris. It would be like going to London as a representation of the UK without setting a foot in Scotland, Wales, Midlands, English countryside or else.

I think that a lot of people have this beautiful-pinterest image about Paris. Don't get me wrong, I think Paris is really pretty. I feel like it would be a place like any other place with new things to see (and only visit of course).

I think the countryside is the same that most people think of. The cities are unfortunately now one big tourist trap full of crime pick pocketers. It costs a lot to see anything and hours standing in line.

I LOVE PARIS. That was actually the last trip I took crossing the Atlantic, as I have been several times. I feel like I know the place very well. A lot to do and see, and great shopping too.
