A US federal judge in Florida has ruled that the CDC overstepped its bounds in requiring masks for domestic and international travel. Immediately, the major US airlines stopped requiring masks, as did rail and bus transit in the US.

The Biden administration is contemplating appealing this ruling.

What do you think about this?

If the ruling stands, might it affect those who have been put on the no-fly list for not wearing masks?

It's LONG overdue. I haven't worn a mask in a year, outside a handful of times where I was forced to to enter a store. I've barely even SEEN a mask for months, and I'm in the SF Bay Area of California, in a deep blue state.

I was writing posts here more than a year ago that everyone would get COVID, and that natural immunity would make it a non-issue. And that's exactly what happened - Omicron was highly contagious but minimally damaging, which is typical of how viruses evolve, and it inoculated the population FAR more than any Pfizer drugs.

That doesn't mean COVID is "gone" - like any virus, once it's out in the population, it will never go away. It's just no longer a mass threat. We've achieved herd immunity. There will be occasional outbreaks in places where people have been isolated and didn't catch Omicron (or some earlier variant) before, and there could still be other variations, but for the most part, it's over.

Here's the other dirty secret - the masks that 99% of people were wearing did almost nothing to protect anyone. Sure, a properly-fitted N95 mask provides a fairly significant improvement in your ability to avoid infection (or spreading your existing infection), when worn as specified, as typically happens in hospitals - where masks are replaced at least every 2 hours with another N95.

But regular people haven't seen an N95 mask in a LONG time. There haven't been any to buy - even the hospitals were struggling to maintain enough. And the various home-brew and thrown-together cloth masks are barely better than nothing at all, ESPECIALLY if they aren't laundered or replaced several times per day - which is NOT what anyone was doing. So, really, it's all been political theater to make people FEEL like they were doing something, and to get people used to doing what they're told, because the government LOVES having power and being able to ignore individual rights. Who cares about all the depression, lack of social development, and even suicides due to isolation that masks caused? They need to be worn because REASONS!

The point of a mask is to catch any virus coming out of the mouth or nose of someone who is infected to prevent it from becoming airborne. For situations where people are in a sealed environment for extended periods of time this would make absolutely no difference unless all people were wearing Kn95 masks that had been fully fit tested. The idea of wearing a mask in this situation was ridiculous, pointless and unworkable in the first place.
The rules surrounding mask wearing has been mainly to help people feel safer, with just a small amount of transmission prevention, your average person on the street has no concept of how mask wearing actually helps prevent transmission in particular scenarios, or even what fit testing of kn95 masks is, therefore it was just made as a blanket rule to have a face covering.

I never even knew masks on planes were mandatory. Since the pandemic hit, masks were always optional in my state so i just assumed it was the same everywhere

If at any time they touch it again, they have to leave the surgical room and get another because the fibers of the mask are compromised. It no longer does anything. It is useless. This vaccine changes the rna of your cells, which changes the dna of your cells. It is a new kind of vaccine that has never been seen before. Doing something so small, you can never be certain of side effects. Maybe the kids will start having birth defects in the next few generations. Maybe it makes you more susceptible to another deadlier virus. Also all the BOOSTER SHOTS: do you know why there keeps coming out booster shots? Because covid is always changing! It’s like the cold. You don’t get the cold once and never get it again because that virus is always changing. Covid is the same. Covid-19 was the 19nth variant. It’s not even that deadly. Oh and by the way, the covid tests aren’t reliable. If you have the flu you could test positive.

It's not called covid-19 because it was the 19th variant. It stands for coronavirus disease 2019 shortened to COVID-19.

Also the boosters currently being used are the same as the original vaccines produced. They're not different vaccines. They are working on newer ones more omicron specific however. The variants that have survived enough to do damage are a handful.

For ex you've heard of Alpha, delta and omicron. Those are variants that are substantial ones. A sub-variant of omicron (that you hear about currently) is not a new variant but a variation of omicron. Variants are named after the Greek alphabet.

Probably more to the ruling than what you're asserting, but it will get rescinded on appeal.

As for no mask bans. Nope, they were banned for their behaviour as much as for the no mask and even then the company can refuse them service if the appeal is not upheld.

US airlines and many transit systems have already dropped the mask requirement, and the CDC requirement is set to end in a few weeks anyway... by the time the case gets to court, the mandate will have ended on its own. The CDC is appealing the ruling to make sure it has the authority to do these kinds of mandates in the future, acknowledging that there's no effect on the current mask (non) requirement.

Did you actually read any of these studies? The claims are shakey at best. Countries with widespread mask use saw no reduction in transmission... areas where masks aren’t worn like restaurants saw lower transmission than many areas masks were worn. Ontop of that, all this shit is based on the faulty assumption that the PCR test provides accurate results!

This is how scummy and deceptive the whole institution of science has become. Why do you say that? It's been shown that masks have minimal impact on the rate of infection, partly because a mask gives people a false sense of security. What's more important is social distancing, regular hand washing, keeping hands away from your face, fewer handshakes and self-quarantine.
