Is Africa really a wild continent as described in books and movies?

In all the books I've read about Africa, Africa is described as an extremely wild continent. A wild continent with cannibals, primitive tribes, wild animals, slave trade. In such books and movies, the plot is often set to search for a missing person. sometimes the ship crashes into the rocks and sinks. the ship's passengers and crew disembark. Then a wild journey begins. Journeys usually start from the Cape of Good Hope and head into the interior of Africa. Is Africa really such a continent? Or is it only described like that in books and movies?

Africa is, as you yourself say, a CONTINENT- it's not a country, or some dingy little suburb of Eurasia. It's *huge*, and it's kinda stupid to assume that it's all going to be the same everywhere. They have poverty and corruption and giraffes, yes; they also have skyscrapers and traffic jams and middle-class taxpayers complaining about politicians.

Would you look at Panama and judge all of North America based on what you saw there?

Of course, it is not right to have an idea about other places by looking at a single region. Every continent, every country, every city has its good and bad sides. Books about Africa are usually set in the 1800s and the slave trade was very high in those years. Likewise, movies about Africa are mostly full of bad and scary content. because they only talk about such bad and scary parts to get attention. however, as you said, Africa is a very large continent and has developed cities, but there are wild regions where tribal life continues as before.

Probably depends on what part of Africa.

some parts are tribal and wild other parts are quite civilized and other parts are full of pirates, slavers and warlords.

Well then it's probably the horn of Africa it's considered the dangerous and lawless part of it. Lots of wild animals and untamed wilderness and a lotta terrorists, warlords, crime and slavery and just bad news.
