Have you ever been involved in a FLIGHT INCIDENT?

Question

I've flown all over the place for business and pleasure, and have been involved in a few flight incidents. * Aborted landings. One, at Chicago O'Hare because the plane landing ahead of us hadn't cleared the runway yet, and another at Boston Logan because the British Captain wasn't happy with the way we were lined up. In both cases we did a go-around and landed safely. * Aborted takeoff. At Rochester NY airport when the pilot got an alarm warning as we accelerated down the runway. He stopped the plane near the end of the runway, rebooted the flight computer, taxied back to the end of the runway and we took off without incident. * Diverted to another airport. On final approach to Washington DC Reagan National in Winter, the plane landing ahead of us slid off the icy runway. We aborted the landing. The airport (which only has one runway) closed so we had to divert. Due to a large winter storm, our diversion airports at Philadelphia and Baltimore were closed, and we ended up landing in freezing rain at Norfolk VA. Have you been involved in a flight incident? I've gone on probably at least 300 airplane flights but they've all been disappointingly uneventful. I've had some delays here and there.

But I never got anything really intense like turbulence causing people to hit the roof. I've talked to the stewardesses a lot about it and they told me all these stories but I never got to experience any of them.

All I got are boring delays. "This flight will be delayed because... [some boring reason I forgot]. When they land sometimes there's a delay because of something and we have to wait for ages on the ground. Then I get pissed off a bit like we're already on the ground. I'm a sprinter. I can run! But we gotta wait.

Nothing tragic, but similar incidents as yours. 2 felt a little scary-
-aborted landings at BOS, JFK, LAX, and ANC.
-diversions are the worst. Stuck overnight a few times due to weather
-a scary failed approach to MXP, Italian pilot told us nothing but could hear “pull up” —from the cockpit and flight attendants freaking out
-a scary takeoff from ORD getting too close/ in the wake of a 777 and our 777 went bouncing around all over the place

I was on one plane and there was this woman who was obviously nervous. As we took off this little kid piped up in a loud voice the seat belts were only there to keep you in your seat so they can identify the bodies when we crash.
She freaked out and started to demand to see the pilot then spent the entire flight praying to jesus

Yes. Lost an engine, landed with damage, no one was injured.

Nothing serious. I had a pretty rough landing on an icy runway with low visibility in Denver. We couldn't see anything until a few seconds before we touched down. We circled for about an hour first. When the pilot got on to announce the arrival, his voice was shaky. I think it scared the crap out of him.

I've been diverted many times for fuel, but that's not a big deal unless it makes you miss a connector.

I remember some strong winds at Detroit. We were almost on the runway and the plane still had a steep bank to correct for the wind. The pilot was seriously fighting the wind to get lined up.

I was on a small plane (Beechcraft 88) it held 8 passengers. It had to make a stop to pick up more passengers before continuing to it's destination. I had to pee really bad so I got out at the stop. I told the pilot not to leave without me. When I got back I had to sit in the rear seat. The pilot tried to close the door but it would not latch He slammed it 5 or 6 times. Finally he got in, pilled the door shut and handed me the safety chain. He said we would only be in the air for 20 minutes and just hold the door shut until we landed. Everything went OK but later I heard that somebody was on a Beachcraft 88 on the same airline and the back door opened during a flight and somebody fell out. The pilot thought he was gone but when they landed he was holding onto the safety chain and survived. I wondered if it was the same plane.

I narrowly avoided an incident in my pants when I was flying from a large airport to a smaller one in Ohio when I was 13. It was an 8 passenger plane, and we flew through a storm. The plane kept hitting turbulence and would suddenly drop fast enough our butts would come off the seat. It is a miracle I didn't s**t my pants 😂

An intercontinental flight (Chinese airline) I was on somehow missed the start of the runway and came down in the middle of it. The pilots had to slam the brakes fiercely to get the airplane to stop before the runway ended. It wasn't exactly fun. :-/

Yes, on a plane once they ran out of Jack Daniels, it was like a scene from a disaster movie...

Yeah quite a few, the joys of being in Air Force and then doing lots of travelling for business.

major ones have been hydraulic failures and engine failures (RAT engaged).

also a few near misses with trees, other planes.

I also did a bit of time on crash n smash, recovering crashed aircraft n bodies etc.

A few weather delays and I think once we turned around because the engine was having problems. We actually never left the tar mack. Honestly, when you consider the few times I've flown my experiences haven't been very good.

But someone my mom worked with was in descent on a normal size passenger plane. There was terrible storm that caused the plane to have incredibly severe turbulence, the plane full of crying babies and crying people. After landing people clapped and said they thought they were going to die

No I’m always very courteous and respect the rules I don’t demand things from stewardesses I don’t have confrontation with the passengers either

Had to eject from an F-18. Landed a LearJet and had complete brake failure. Lost an engine in an E-120.  Had an aft lavatory fire in a CRJ. Had a serious fuel transfer issue in a CRJ.

Yeah. On one flight I boarded we were all told to get off because of a coolant leak and had to wait another 5 hours for the next plane
