Who else hates when Uber prices are basically robbery?

I need to get home someplace yesterday and did not happen to have a car at the time… and it was suburban, I’d say it’s generally like A $30-$35 ride, but it’s only 25 minutes. And it was $65 and change. That’s crazy. I feel taken advantage of

I mean, in my experience taxis are more expensive. And in ubers defense, it probably wouldn't have to be so expensive if gas prices weren't so high and people weren't sueing them over stupidity all the time.

Yes I know all about Uber. I had to spend almost $600 every month to get to and from work for 2 years.

But it's silly to say that gas has nothing to do with it. Surge pricing happens because there aren't enough drivers in a given area to meet demand. So they add a multiplyer to the rate to make it more enticing for drivers who wouldn't have otherwise traveled to that area.

They are constantly trying to balance making the customer and drivers not feel like they're getting screwed over.

From the drivers perspective, an average guy like you who doesn't understand basic things about business like overhead is the problem. But from a customers perspective, the price fluctuations are unfair. Even if the Uber is cheaper than taxis ever were before the app came to be.

I had no license. Because of my particular situation my only choice was to save up very slowly until I had enough money to handle all my problems at once. I would still be in the same position if I hadn't started trading in the stock market.

I was renting out part of someone's house with my girlfriend. We both lost our jobs and I had to take the closest thing that could pay the bills. Every other job was so far away that the Uber was too expensive. When the place I was working at found out about my situation (which was my own fault for being stupid and 22) they made me do all the low paying work nobody else wanted to do because they knew I had no other options other than to work my ass off to show I was worthy of the better job.

Didn't get offered a promotion until I rode into work one day on an electric skateboard and I told them how much cash I was saving from not taking Uber.

I’m in New Egypt, New Jersey. You tell me a good bus route to the Port Authority in New York. All the routes are indirect and very long.

Okay, so here's your most convenient option. This will work 95% of the time:
1. Take Uber or Lyft to the Bordentown NJT station (on the River Line). It's only $20.
2. From there, go north 3 stops to the Trenton transit center.
3. Hop on the Northeast Corridor train and ride that all the way into Penn Station.
(Not exactly the Port Authority Bus Terminal, but it's in the same neighborhood.)

(Reverse directions for the ride home.)

The most direct route is this (but they don't run buses in the morning before 9 AM):

1. Get on the 317 Bus going east to Asbury Park.
(The bus stops are on New Egypt Cookstown Rd, Main St, and Lakewood Rd.)
2. Ride the bus over to Lakewood. Get off at the Lakewood Bus Terminal.
3. Get on Bus OC4 to Point Pleasant. Ride that into Point Pleasant all the way to the NJT train station.
4. Ride the North Jersey Coast Line train all the way into Penn Station in NYC.

This is a hell of a lot of work. Again the normal price would be more like $35. What you’re describing is not worth $15 of effort. I don’t work in New York. I only work there technically. I go once in a while for leisure

I used to commute from Jackson which is much more convenient in terms of the bus routes

I’m only here temporarily. I would say this is the edge of central jersey but it does get a bit we’re all yes

Also, when I worked there in person I works near the world trade center. That means I took the bus into Jersey City and then took the path train, and my office was walking distance from there

What are you describe would take me to Midtown which means I have to get on the subway. That’s a nightmare

Also, everything I described just takes you to NYC. You don't HAVE to go to Penn Station. You can get off earlier and reroute to suit your needs.
