Truth is life is full of risks and a lot of ways we are never truly safe. All we can do is do our best to manage the risks and hope for the best.
Any job has risk. If you don't want to do something cause it's risky, you might as well never leave the house.

I mean, I don’t think it’s any less likely that it could’ve just happened to a cab driver, I don’t feel like it’s specific to Uber/Lyft other than that seems to be replacing cab companies as the primary way of getting a ride. Not like a cab company screens the people who ride, it’s actually safer in the sense that I believe drivers can “rate” riders, no? So maybe someone writes “this guy was creepy and seemed off”, and then other drivers can opt to not pick them up. A cab dispatch just sends you wherever to whoever. I think there may be some additional vulnerabilities emerging as we’re seeing many women drive for these companies, whereas it’s far less common, particularly historically, to encounter female cab drivers. Right off the bat, there might be an increased risk just due to the desire for sexual assault a rapist wouldn’t feel with a male driver. Might seem like an easier, less threatening mark for a robbery. All kinds of variables. But cab drivers have been getting robbed forever, haha, Uber/Lyft is just signing up to be a freelance cab driver, so all of the perils that have always existed still come with it.
No offense to the lady who lost her life. But driving for money is not enough to support even one person as a sole income. So how does it help a mother who is trying to make more money not even for herself, for children. The truth is do you see non parents losing their lives driving? Not really, its always mother of and father of however many kids they have. If you have children to protect, and you're driving around strangers, then get a life insurance plan or, realize, the only way to gain wealth is get a skill that not everyone can do like drive, and be the best at it on any scale, as long as someone recognizes your talent, others will start to pay attention too. Does anyone remember their driver and say how great they are at their job? Not really, and even then, I might tip them a few dollars, still no place to advance and too unstable based on the times
True, also they are working round the clock to make cars that will drive themselves so it's a job with no future.
I still don't get the whole picking up strangers in your car or getting into a stranger's car for a ride thing. It's not like the old taxi service where the employees reported to their boss in person and had coworkers. This is much different.
Because cases like this are extremely rare yes its shit that they happen anyway but it dont happen anywhere close enough to be considered a massive problem
For the record, begging doesn’t tend to work very well with deviants. But yes, I do think Uber driving is unsafe, especially for women.
you'll find people dying in pretty much every profession. some are more risky, some less but at the end of the day, some people just need money to have food on the table and no other means to get that.
Uber wasn't a good thing from the start. Lyft was alright, but again not a great idea. I'm talking 2014 when I considered it. Anything considered rideshare or food delivery in the past 3 years has been a complete shit show!
If people lived their lives in fear, nothing would get done. You can't live your life in fear. Unfortunately things happen but you can't let that get to you. All you can do is do your best and use what you know to protect yourself
I imagine that the more this happens, the fewer people will want to do the job.
There are other ways to move around, more public or more private.
Some people just need the money at any potential cost.
How are these people going to put food to the table if not like that?
And who is going to transport us?
yea being a grubhub drivers great, because 80% of the time they dont even bother to deliver my food. but the restaurant always says it was picked up.
Convenience and desperation
Do Uber-Eats instead
No have idea
