Is California a good place to live or Florida?

I’m wanting to move to one or the other after I get my degree at KSU and I’ve always been in love with the vibe in California and the beaches and scenery and just have always felt like it was a place I should end up but my boyfriend wants to go to Florida and I don't know I’m stuck on what to do.

Los Angeles is a city about to implode. Homeless drug addicts are everywhere:

Venice Beach

Venice beach is mostly shut down (shops are closed, etc.) because of all of the drug addicts camped out and hassling people, fighting, and other crime. There are 70,000 homeless just in the central LA area alone - and last year that number grew 13% - and it's still accelerating. These are largely NOT economic homeless - people who lost their job and then their house - they're almost all alcoholics and drug addicts who would rather be homeless than give up their addictions - though there are some mentally ill folks in the mix as well.

Crime in general is continuing to grow, and now the city is on the threshold of a disaster of epic proportions: a lack of water and power.

The majority of the water supplying the LA area comes from the Colorado river, which is dammed up by the Hoover Dam, which created Lake Mead, the primary water storage for LA, Las Vegas, and Phoenix (and many other cities around these areas). But over a decade of lower levels of snowfall in the Rocky Mountains - which is where the water from the Colorado river comes from - has caused the water level to fall so much that the Hoover Dam - which also creates nearly 40% of the electricity for the area - is about to lose the ability to generate power. The water intakes for the generators, which are normally more than 150 feet below the surface of the lake, are nearly exposed, and Lake Mead is dropping by a foot a week, and that rate is accelerating as the width of the lake decreases. In a few more weeks, the power from the dam is going away, which is going to mean constant rolling blackouts - i. e., people will lose power for hours a day, every day.

Water rationing is also about to start - hardcore rationing.

Try to imagine how these two events are going to affect the area. There are roughly 18.5 million people in the greater Los Angeles area. What happens when that many people have to face life without electricity and with limited water for an extended period of time? Plus $6/gallon gas and rising food prices?

Many of them are going to turn to drugs as an escape - and that's going to mean an increase of drug dealers, and THAT's going to bring an increase in violence between drug dealers. LA is going to become a war zone, more than it already is.

Ignoring the politics, taxes and the cost of living are much higher in Florida.

Something that travel guides never mention is that the water off the coast of CA is COLD. During the summers, sea temperatures Huntington Beach, a very popular beach in SoCAl, range 18 to 22°C (64 to 72°F).

It might be scorching hot on the sand, but you'll be shivering in the water.

It all depends on WHERE in California.

Areas like LA and the area near San Francisco is super expensive and super crowded. In general, CA is a pretty expensive place to live. The other thing to consider, the ultra-liberal politics of the state isn't for everyone.

Florida can be a lot less expensive and a lot less crowded.
