Do you need hiking shoes for uphill climbing?

I don’t want to buy new shoes 4 days before my vacation cause new shoes usually hurt until they are broken into.

Absolutely yes. The type you need will depend on the terrain but unless your going off track a pair of trail hiking shoes will do. No need to go expensive, a thick sole and ideally some ankle support is what you need. Ideally the lighter the better.
The problem with ordinary shoes is you soon start feeling the uneven ground and stones, before long your feet start aching. Always a good chance the sole will part because most shoes are only designed for street walking. .
Opt for modern materials, rather than old fashioned leather. There's no need to break in, they're lightweight and last a long time.

It really depends on the quality of the trail. If this is some park where the trail is used by thousands of people, graded, compacted and well maintained. Any sneaker will do.

If it's a rougher trail. You want shoes with good traction on dirt. Ones designed for hiking provide more protection and are more durable than street shoes.

If it's really rough, you'll be going off trail and through plants and such. You really want hiking boots for maximum protection against cuts and scratches.
