Honestly, haven't been very impressed with the significant majority of European beaches I've been to (mostly between Italy and Turkey, and throughout the Greek isles) and of those, the ones closer to or in Turkey were better/less crappy. Allegedly, some of them in the southern France and Monte Carlo are nice, but I've never been to them.
You run into a similar problem with beaches everywhere in the world: really popular ones with lots of people tend to be trashed and overrated, while the obscure ones are better, but may or may not be worth the extra effort. I would imagine the cream of the crop in Europe would be in the hard to reach Greek islands that aren't part of usual tourism industries.

@joenelson this is not impossible :)
Yes I have to assume Greece has nice clear waters and the beaches are rather clean.
Any European country’s beach has got to be better than Coney Island as far as the grade scale goes for a “beach.”
Coney is only good for some of its rides 🎢

Eh, Greek beaches are scenic but rocky

@KostasKouvalis ALL OF THEM? 😱👀
- +1 y
No, not at all of them, but a significant portion on there. Skiathos I know for sure has sandy ones

Oh wow, those are some gorgeous pictures, I was SO lucky to have spent a lot of time in the Mediterranean growing up. It truly has some of the most beautiful beaches on earth! I definitely plan on going back to our villa in Ibiza after I graduate college! I honestly miss it SO much!

@CrazyGirl2 yea i wasn't aware of these beaches until last year. Super gorgeous

Absolutely! I was lucky enough to have learned to water ski in Greece, and the water was SO clear that I couldn't tell if the coral was 2 inches below the surface or 10 ft! I was I bit terrified, but the not knowing definitely kept me motivated to not fall off! I mean I fell at first just trying to get up, but once I was up and going and could see the sharp coral, I stayed right in the middle of the boat’s wake, and held on for dear life. I suppose being a gymnast helped me with the balance, but I kept my arms pulled close to my chest which made it so much harder! Oh well live and learn I guess. But if you ever get the chance, I highly recommend you visit the Mediterranean, it’s gorgeous and so historical. The oldest town on the island of Ibiza where our family vacation home is, was founded in like 634 BC, and the gothic castle style cathedral was built in the 1400’s!

@CrazyGirl2 wow you make it sound even more amazing! And the clearest of clear waters is the main thing i want to go for
- +1 y
@DizzyDesii Oh yeah, seriously that water is unbelievably clear. It’s easily as clear as any pool I’ve ever been in. I dont know if it gets more or less clear at different times of the year, but during the spring, summer and early fall, it’s beautiful! If you do ever get the chance, DEFINITELY go!

+1 yHaving traveled extensively around Mediterranean coastal countries, I would say pretty much any county that has a Mediterranean coast line, will have the most beautiful beaches! The water is so crystal clear that it will amaze you! I learned to water ski in Greece, and I was terrified because I could see coral below the surface, and I couldn’t even tell if it was just below the surface or was 20ft below. So I was afraid to fall because I thought that I could get hurt by falling on the sharp coral rocks! Southern Italy also has some amazing beaches
Ibiza has nicer beaches than either Kos or Corfu in Greece, but the experience of being in the Mediterranean is not so different. My family owns an estate in the mountains on the San Antonio side of the island, and growing up there I have many wonderful memories of the beautiful clear water.
If anyone asked me for a vacation recommendation based on the beaches and nightlife alone, I would have to say Ibiza (pronounced: “e-beeth-a”), and definitely check out Cala Basa, and Cala Comte, but my all-time favorite Beach in Ibiza is Cala Carbo, it is VERY secluded with tall cliffs surrounding it on three sides. Parking is on the ramp down, and it is never packed. It’s truly an unspoiled gem in the crown of Ibiza, and it even has a magnificent little restaurant right on the beach. They are all beautiful beaches, and there are innumerable other beautiful beaches there. Ibiza also has some of the finest night clubs in the world there too, where i believe house music, and foam parties were invented. So Ibiza’s amazing for both the beach-life, and the nightlife! I hope this helped.11 Reply- +1 y
Thanks! Very helpful
+1 yGreek islands, esp. Santorini is great. Southern Crete has a few beaches on Libyan Sea that are beatiful. I don''t thonk you can beat the Caarribean - I know youu wanted Europe but as far as water goes, I don't think anyplace is as beautiful. From the Bahamas, Antilles, Virgin islands, from Mexico you can acxess Cozumel, Isla Museres. amaica has some fntastic beaches. Maybe the Canary Islands though I haven't been. Balaeric islands off spain if you cgo to Ibiza or Fomentera. If I think of any more I'll pass along. Anywhere specoific in Europe? Portugal, the Algarve coast is great but other Iberiam beaches not so much. Torre, molinos was a let down. French Riviera has mostly smaller amd pebbly beaches. Most of southern Europe, esp. Greece are clothing optional. Europe is further North then many people think,. Check a globe and see what latitude you wil be on & check it against U. S. cities you know. You'll be surprised at how far North many places are. It's also important what time of year. The resorts are packed in late uly & August because of 6 week vacation most European obs have.
10 ReplyI think it would be Turkey with the Mediterranean environment. Greece is crowded or so people say.
But there are less expensive regions like Moldova and Albania on the Mediterranean too.
I haven't visited any of the places just saw pictures from the travellers there ))

+1 yTo me, a 'pretty' beach is one with a minimum of tourists.
So I'd opt for: Føroyar Islands (somewhat Danish) :D

I 100% agree! I was lucky enough to visit Greece several times, going to Kos, Corfu, and mainland Greece mostly Athens. I learned to ski in Greece and the water was so clear I wasn't sure if the coral was 2inches below the water of 10ft. It definitely inspired me to NOT fall! But I spent a lot more time on the Spanish balearic island of Ibiza (pronounced e-bee-tha), in the Mediterranean. My family has a villa there, and that water is SO unbelievably clear, it’s frankly amazing, and the way the cliffs tower over most of the beaches… its like being in your own private tropical lagoon. (Except there are other people there, and it’s not in the tropics) but other than that… exactly the same. Lol. But it truly is spectacular. It even has an old gothic castle style cathedral, in an area called “Old Ibiza Town” while the gothic cathedral was built in the early 1400’s, the town it’s self was founded in 634bc. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend you check it out.
