What do you think about people going on weekend trips with friends for their "Birthday Weekend"?

I have a couple of friends who have done that. One went to Atlanta for a weekend, and another went to Nashville. I have considered going to Pensacola/ Mobile alone for a weekend since my birthday is on a Friday this year. However, I'm not going to party or get drunk; it's more of a relaxation trip.

Why do you care about what others think? Just go out and have fun. Life is way too short to care about what randoms think about what you are doing for your birthday. I literally went on a date with a guy that I met two days before my birthday for my birthday and he turned it into a great ass birthday. You know what I would’ve did if it wasn’t for him? Nothing. He made it special. Go make your birthday a special day for you

Because right now, my job has cut my hours drastically, and the money I'm planning on using is from my refund from my Financial Aid. So, I want to do it but I feel it's at a bad time

So do something local, invite some friends and make it a great time. I think it’s more of a question you need to ask yourself.

I would not do that during a birthday because it’s tiring and on a birthday I want to avoid doing work - driving and travelling requires planning and work. I might travel during a festival like new years or Christmas.

I think traveling is great for most things. Be it birthday or just to do something.
Activity could be many things.. not just party although that is awesome at times.
Other things could be :
Hiking, go abroad, museum, shopping, try a new sport or have weekend just to go rate restaurants and do relaxation.
