Would you miss a trip opportunity for a job?

Lets say you wotn know if this trip will be repeated again any time soon and you have to take the chance while you can as travel is part of living but then comes the dilemma of also earning some money by working.

A friend of mine lets say it is ia bit of a dilemma. She was fired from her job before COVID estarted, she was fired at the end of 2019, then it came COVID and hell broke loose as jobs were lost, people with jobs ended up unemployed and if a person will like to look for a job in those eyars, it was so difficult to do so, plus you could nto travel anywhere either in 2020 and 2021 and the beginning of 2022. So my friend was in taht position but also she is 50 so it is not easy to find jobs at her age at this current moment as it takes more time to find out that if she is taken into account. Some companies prefer to hire young blood with less experience these days. At this moment she still is unemployed.

Anyway my friend had a trip to Europe with her cousins back in 2020, but due to the health crisis she had to postpone that plan and so did her cousins, they could not travel either in 2021 and when it was 2022 one of her cousins could not travel at all for work reasons in 2022 she could not take days off, as if she would had taken back in 2020 or 2021. You know with the crisis things changed for everyone.

My friends cousins still h ave the plan to travel to Europe and they say this year is finally the year to take that trip as it was postpone back in 2020.

My friend says that after 3 years if this trip takes place is a dream come true for her and if she does not take that trip this year she won't know until when she could travel, or maybe she would not travel at all if she misses this year trip, but my friend is unemployed still, the thing is that trip if it takes place is until September and my friend says, ..."what if I start applying for jobs this year before September and I found a job? I mean my new employer won't like

me to take days off so soon as Im just starting the job in this new place, that be unprofessional so I won't be able to take the trip and all the plans I made for this trip 3 years ago to take place won't be come true in my case, cause in my cousins case they will be able to travel, the one who won't it be me.

Also if I dotn take this trip there is no guarantee this opportunity will knock at my door

again but also there is also no certainty my cousins will plan or organize anotehr Europe trip like so soon so they can wait for me for another chance or maybe they won't be able to organize anything anynore for another moment.
My friend had saved money for that trip that is why 3 years ago she had this money because 3 years ago in 2019 she was still working and not fired.

What can wait more a job or a trip, according to you?

Quite the predicament isn't it? And it's one I'm all too familiar with. The rational part of me would say to take the job, but the last thing you wrote about not being certain if she'll be able to do it again completely changes thing.

If September's, the only time she can go, then why not just wait 'til AFTER the trip to start applying for jobs, or just work a temporary seasonal job, go on the trip, then apply for full time positions after she comes back.

Or another thing she can do is go ahead and apply, but tell the employer she has this trip booked and she won't be able to start until she comes back from her trip.

Europe won't go anywhere, but at the same time if she feels the opportunity is now, take the trip. She deserves some fun in life. One can always find another job.

Yeah, I asked for 2 weeks off in October 'cuz I wanted to go to Italy and they told me I might as well stay there. I took 2 weeks off before to go to Turkey and it wasn't a problem, so I don't know why it was a problem this time. But I put in a request to have the whole second half of October off to go to Italy, and they approved it, but still fired my ass
