Would you travel by balloon?

I have before in Turkey, and I've read those Jules Verne novels, but honestly, I don't know much about balloons to know if they would even be capable of long distance travel. I certainly wouldn't wanna cross open ocean in one. Plus, there are a lot practical issues too. You can only pack so much. How would you go to the bathroom? I guess you'd have to have like balloon rest areas. Anyways, nah. Not for super long distance. From what I saw in Turkey, you don't even have any control over which direction it flies.
But that reminds me of a joke...
A French guy, a German guy an African guy and their Russian pilot are traveling in a balloon, when it suddenly starts to become top heavy.
"We need to lose some weight," the Russian pilot tells them. "Unfortunately, one of you is gonna have to jump out."
"Not me," the other three all say.
"Alright, I know how we'll settle this," the pilot says. "I'll ask you a series of trivia questions. The first person to answer wrong, has to jump out."
"Alright," the others agree.
"First question is for you Pierre. What date was the Battle or Normandy?"
"That's easy! The 6th of June, 1944!"
"That is correct! You can stay! Okay Hans, this next question is for you then! How many Germans were killed in that battle?"
"That's easy, 30,000!"
"You are correct," the pilot tells him. "You can stay. So then, this last question is for YOU M'wepu! What were their names and addresses?"
If there were regular balloons that were a practical and efficient mode of transportation, and if they were also more environmentally friendly than airplanes or other forms of transportation, then they could be a great option for commuting or traveling between cities.
However, there are some practical considerations to take into account, such as safety, weather conditions, and the availability of suitable landing areas. Balloons are more susceptible to weather conditions than other modes of transportation and may not be as reliable for commuting or traveling between cities.
Moreover, balloons may not be as fast or efficient as other forms of transportation, which could be a concern for people who need to get to engagements quickly. The cost of building and maintaining a balloon transportation system could also be a significant hurdle. In addition, you can have only 3-4 passengers.
Therefore, if I had a balloon, good weather, and plenty of time on my hands, a balloon ride to the beach or a brothel with my slaves tied to the ropes would be an uplifting experience.
No thank you. I'd be absolutely terrified & I prefer not showing up for work after I've pissed myself from fear.
Sounds good to me, but as high as winds get here in prairie country, I’d likely end up two states past my stop.

I always wanted to ride in a balloon. I know some people who have done it and they loved it. I helped launch one once. It was pure accident. I was at a small park where somebody was launching a balloon and they asked if we wanted to help. We hung onto it as it filled. We acted as ballast to keep it on the ground until it was ready to launch.
sure. i mean a baloon is not really about "getting from point a to point b. for one, cause in balloon rides, you actually have no controll over the direction. you just go where the wind carries you. i think it's more like a sort of "novelty" sight seeing trip. not so much to travel. and for that, i'd do that.
Sure. Why not?
I've never gone up in a blimp or a hot air balloon, but I'd like to.
I would never.
My inept fear of heights will always prevent this from happening.
While it would be cool it'd be a waste of my time if I was using it to travel it's just inefficient. And with the weather and winds where I live it's a potentially unpredictable and dangerous endeavor.
I've never been in one, so not sure if I would have a freak-out party of one... probably not as easy to bail out of compared to a taxi or something.
Not over the United States, Canada, or Alaska...
No, I’ve seen the Wizard of Oz and every time they show a balloon in the sky in the movies there’s always a problem with them crashing
Aren't balloons much more efficient than regular aeroplanes?
It might make a lot of sense to do those long haul flights by balloon.
Hongkong > Washington DC for example.
What could go wrong?
Only over China, Russia, Iran, or USA please. I have specific requests. Stops at Singapore and Dubai are acceptable.
That's super specific. Are those countries ore suitable for balloon travel than others?
no I would be afraid Biden would shoot me down.
At least your safe to travel the whole country first.
Maybe by airship. They're slow, but don't need rails and are more like a cruise than a flight. (Very climate friendly, too.)
No, for two reasons:
- it's boring as hell to stand in a basket
- you may get shot down by a trigger happy combat aircraft
Nope! Did that once and landed on someone's farmland and he was not happy!
I'd love to try an airship like they had a century ago - only helium, not hydrogen filled.
I have two modes of transportation that I live with. On land, on water.
I get vertigo and feel sick even thinking about it,,,
Depends, is an F-22 going to shoot me down?
Nope 🥲
Yea !!
Nope lol 😂
oh hell no
