With an 8 month old? Absolutely nothing.
Otherwise, there are the beaches - snorkel with the Leopard Sharks in La Jolla Cove (they're harmless, at least to humans) or go surfing or just hang out (note that this has been a relatively cold wet winter there and Spring tends to be foggy), go to the San Diego Zoo, or the associated Wild Animal Park near Escondido, cruise the walk along the beach in Pacific Beach, go to Balboa Park, visit the USS Midway museum (a retired aircraft carrier right downtown), hike in the hills. If you like beer, some of the best microbreweries in the world are in the area; pre-covid there were something like 150 in San Diego County.

Balboa Park is a cultural oasis that includes 17 museums, gardens galore and the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
I would head to the park for a picnic, it's free and you can maybe enjoy the gardens and the weather with your 8 month old.😊

When I was in San Diego, the beach was so fun. I felt like I was in an episode of BayWatch!
Other than that, the zoo is a must see. The meerkats are hilarious!
San Diego known for it's high gay population, prostitution and an amazing zoo at least it was 20 years ago. Other than that hop down to mexico and stock up on some pharmaceuticals
You would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't visit the zoo. It's one of the best in the country.
it is a long time since I was in San Diego, but out on the freeway there was a love pub and the meal was gorgeous,
You got a kid... hit the beaches around there... malls... yeah, that's pretty much all I did there with my kid. I did college there, but that was just some stuff to cram my time up and I never used the degree for anything (accounting). That place was getting way too ghetto for me when I left... the beach areas are nice though.

Go to the San Diego zoo it’s a great experience. It’s a very popular zoo but it’s a long day if you can deal with it with the child then good but that’s kind of dangerous in the hot sun. Unless you walk in the shade.
I grew up in San Diego, but I haven't been back in ages. I would recommend the zoo obviously, Seaport Village, the Gaslamp Quarter, Pacific Beach near the roller coaster at Belmont, maybe Sea World. There's a bunch of stuff.
Check the port for sure... and the delis there are REALLY good
You can jack it on the streets.
