I like the name "Lake Mackinac" because the "two lakes" are joined by the Mackinac Straits. Then we could still call the bodies we are familiar with the Michigan and Huron branches.

I'm not sure I see the point of saying it's technically one lake and then giving it a name that means "two lakes", but whatever. lol However, Georgian Bay on the Canadian side of Lake Huron is massive all its own, so I think all the names should all be combined to be named Hurmichigeorgian. 😋
As a side note though: Georgian Bay is actually the world's largest freshwater bay, and Manitoulin Island (which bisects Georgian Bay from the main lake of Lake Huron), is also the largest freshwater island. Both Georgian Bay, and in particular Manitoulin Island, hold several interesting world records. Too many to list here.

Where do you get the idea they are one lake? There's a strait (Mackinac) between them. Would you call the Mediterranean Sea the Atlantic Ocean because of the Strait of Gibraltar?
Because they are connected and exist on the same water table and the Mediterranean Sea is one of the many seas that are part of the Atlantic Ocean (Like the North Sea and the Caribbean Sea).
Michigan-Huron is what it is. I'm good with it.
I say call it Lake Michigan-Huron.
