Which state is the safest?

I am a foreigner. I will move to America. Which state is the safest? NJ, NY, Texas...

Probably somewhere in the boonies but it isn’t destitute, maybe Vermont, something like that. Just guessing, but I’d expect they’d be up there in safety. It also depends what your idea of “crime” is. Statistics can be misleading. A place may be high in some sort of crime but not in such a way that you’d be affected.

Another aspect of safety is weather. Vermont I’d bet is fairly safe for that, too, or just the Northeast US in general. The West Coast can get earthquakes, wildfires, mudslides. The Southeast/Gulf Coast gets destroyed by a hurricane every decade or so. Tornadoes are just a regular occurrence in the Midwest. We can get some heavy snow in the Northeast, but other than that, the natural disasters aren’t too bad. Very few tornadoes, no major earthquakes, hurricanes usually weaken by the time they get that far north.

The Northeast (New England region, specifically) probably rates near the top overall, I’d bet.

From those three? New York outside of New York City is actually very nice and fairly safe

There is a lot more variation between areas within states, than between states. There a safe places to live in every state, as well as dangerous ones. Also depends on what sort of safety? Are you just worried about crime, or are you worried about other risks (weather, etc).

I'm worried about other crimes. Theft, murder, kidnapping, etc. I guess I can't find the best place for me without living there

Definitely Texas out of those 3 you listed, but if you're looking for nice states, I recommend Colorado or maybe Wisconsin. Texas is great, but lots of space and lots of people.

I've lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Arizona. Out of these states I can say for sure Colorado is the safest.
