Ideas where to stay cheap in Paris?

I had tried to look for cheap hotels in Paris but It has been difficult. Im travleing in August and the cheapest hotels are the ones like 7 kilometers from the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, etc and Im just staying in Paris 2 nights that is all. Could there be exceptions? Im traveling for 6 people but no hostels for us it has to be hotels, motels with private rooms and clean and with a metro or train station near by. I alreayd went to Booking. com and and I can't find hotels with modest prices close to those attractions and the ones I could find are like 8 or 7kms from Paris center or 7kms from the Eiffel tower. I dont mind if it is 2 kms or 3kms from the eiffel tower but at least is closer than 6 or 7 kms.

For those who had travelled to Paris before under those same circusmtances.
