Life preserver, Shark suit /Shark repellent, Scuba mask w/ snorkel maybe a wet suit if here in the Pacific, especially in the winter. spear gun (compressed air powered)

In 1985 my Great Uncle and Great Aunt took me and a bunch of young people to a lake we were all a Sunday School Class, and we had picnic, boating etc. I went in the boat with my Uncle and Pastors daughter and was so scared to it was over with, but everything was fine, just bunch of anxiety for my part.

What is appreciated: boating shoes (antiiskid) with a CLEAN sole (a deck can be hot to walk on, and street dirt isn't liked by skipper :)

Boat covers a lot of range -from a rowboat on a lake, to a ocean fishing boat, to a sailing yacht to a cruise ship.

I've been on all of those. Very different experiences.

Sunscreen is very important as the sun reflects off the water making it like you are getting double the amount of sun as usual. Sunglasses and a hat are good to have too. Bring something to eat and drink if they aren't being supplied.

It depends. When i used to go fishing bait and a six pack cooler was about it. Just wear sunscreen and a hat.
